Curated by ReelN and showing as part of this year's themed Circle of Life.

Join us for a unique historical chronicle of the enduring love affair between The Beatles and India that started more than half a century ago. Rare archival footage, photographs and eye-witness accounts, along with location shoots across India, bring alive the fascinating journey of George, John, Paul and Ringo from their high-octane celebrity lives in the West to a remote Himalayan ashram in search of spiritual bliss - a time that inspired an unprecedented burst of creative song writing.

This is the first serious exploration of how India helped shape the evolution of the iconic band and how they helped bridge two vastly different cultures.
(92 mins).

Followed by a live Q&A with co-director Peter Compton.

"August: A Short Hello
One afternoon in the middle of the lockdown in August 2020, a young woman reminiscences her past. Does the endless ‘me' time nudge her to revisit some old dusty pages of her life? Marquez’s Love In The Time of Cholera may have played Cupid unwittingly."

"September: Tea and a Rose
In which one serendipitous September
2020 morning, life gives a chance to two lovely lonely souls over a cup of tea! Did the endless hours of uncertainty during the lockdown make them brave? Was it serendipity really though? A rose may have played its part, without the thorniness."

"February: Dinner in Lockdown
In which one gorgeous crisp evening, one half of the very attractive and successful SoBo Poster Couple of fabulous marriages Psychiatrist Malvika Singh during the course of setting up a Zoom dinner with friends in their luxe South Bombay pad accepts for the first time out loud her world is not as perfect as everyone deems it to be and that her marriage is something she’s been holding on to for society and family. And that she needs to do better – for herself, her teenage daughter and for her husband - a successful finance wiz with his own deeply buried secret. Malvika is finally speaking up and there’s no stopping her…An accidentally broken wine glass may have had a small role to play?

Our team will be recording vox pops and we would love to be able to record your feedback - to get involved please see one of our volunteers at the event!

We look forward to seeing you there!

MAIDA (white flour) is a living documentary film shot across a span of eight years. This documentary explores the societal norms of dowry, child marriage and the prevalent practice of school drop-outs after the onset of menstruation. Maida traces the dreams and aspirations of a young schoolgirl in an Indian village of Bihar. Through her stories and Bhojpuri folk songs, she breaks the myth of women empowerment, as we know it. Such incidents go unreported for lack of courage to face societal consequences. Documentaries are mirrors of society. All laws, covenants and policies fail at the implementation level and girl children still continue to get exploited without a voice of their own. Girl children are not even aware of their own rights to defend themselves. This documentary is for all voiceless girl children who deserve their stories to be told without fear"

Maida having been screened at a number of worldwide film festivals will be shown as part of this Friday's SAHM ON SCREEN programme at SOAS University from 5pm.
