Gospel: Luke 14:1, 7-11

The one who humbles himself will be raised up

Why is humility so important to God? Humility allows us to fully submit to God. It gives us the desire to be kind, grateful, generous, compassionate - a virtuous person. A humble soul is a rich ground where the fruits of Spirit grow.

It is a grace that attracts more grace. And it frees us from Pride which is the most poisonous sin. Pride leads us to commit from one sin to another, and suffer it's dire consequences. Jesus is described as humble many times in the Bible. He is the perfect example of humility given by God for us to imitate.

Dear Jesus, grant unto us a humble heart like yours. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 13:18-21

What is the kingdom of God like?

Jesus compared the kingdom of God with a mustard seed. It started rather small, insignificant; but through the works of Jesus and His disciples, then and now, and the grace of God, it grew to a great number of followers, and continue to spread and flourish across the world. Likewise, Jesus compares it to the yeast. We may not see it; but God is ever present, working constantly, patiently, in and through people's lives, situations, and events, and building up His kingdom.

Dear Jesus, provide us what we need to share in Your mission. And help us persevere in all circumstances until the end. Amen.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven

The Gospel teaches us today that in whatever situation we might find ourselves in, we have Him. Feeling poor in Spirit? Mourning? Meek? Hungry? Hungry for righteousness? Merciful? Clean of heart?

Our Lord proves to us again that He loves us not because of what we have, do, feel…. He loves us because that is who He is. And that’s what He pleases Him to do.

Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit, help us always remember that Your love is never-ending, just like what You are...Amen.

The Lord today reminds us of duty and obligation, even those duties we do not like or are tempted to abandon. Like the Pharisees we reject our duty because we resent the people who obligate us. But to neglect our duty is also to reject the Lord in a way. Lord help us have the godly view on our duties and responsibilities. Help us to see that to fulfill our duty is to honor You and that rendering service to others is really rendering service to You.

Gospel: Jn 20:19-23

Receive the Holy Spirit

Today is Pentecost Sunday and it was 50 days ago since the Easter Sunday celebration. In this day, we commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus while they were in Jerusalem.

The gospel starts off with Jesus saying “Peace be with you” to his disciples and all of there were rejoiced seeing Jesus. Jesus responded again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” With that, Jesus breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” The gift of peace allows our hearts to be open and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. How is your experience with the Holy Spirit in your life? The Holy Spirit is our guide and protector so that we are armed with hope and confidence when Jesus sends us to mission fields where he will call us to serve.

Mama Mary, may we trust the Holy Spirit working in our lives so that we may fulfill what Jesus wants us to contribute to His mission here in the world. Amen.
