The Refugee Council have developed and are piloting a Mentoring Programme for Refugee Community Organisations (RCO), which aims to strengthen refugee-led organisations through practical mentoring, skills development and increased access to professional networks.

They are currently recruiting experienced volunteer mentors who can support staff in RCOs through this structured mentoring programme.

Complex decisions: The faster the better

Apparently, when it comes to complex strategic decisions, a shorter thinking time is associated with a higher quality of decisions. The study is limited in as much as the study is about chess, and the implication is extrapolated out to all aspects of decision making.

I’d take this with a pinch of salt, but there is something interesting to consider.

For a more pragmatic approach to human and machine collaboration, once again in organisations and in society, have a look at Superminds: The Surprising Power of People and Computers Thinking Together, by Thomas Malone (ISBN 978-0316349130).

Most people read this for the aforementioned AI section, but there is also a good exploration of collaborative thinking structures that pre-date the AI age. Once you think about the topic the examples are obvious and include company and cooperative structures, the free market, and democratic process amongst others.

Government Publishes National Vision For Archives In England

The government has published Archives at the Heart of Society, a national vision for archives in England, setting a long-term framework to ensure archives are valued and widely used. Led by The National Archives, the strategy focuses on three priorities: sustainability, ensuring long-term resilience; accessibility, improving discovery and use online and in person; and inclusivity, better reflecting diverse communities. New programmes will support touring collections, workforce leadership, and community engagement to strengthen the sector’s role in preserving collective memory.

DCMS (Performance) Data Shows Slowing Recovery in National Museums and Galleries Attendance

New DCMS data shows UK national museums and galleries recorded 41.8 million visits in 2024/25, down 1.3% from 42.5 million the previous year. This suggests the post-pandemic recovery is levelling off, with attendance still 16% below the 2018/19 peak of 49.8 million. London museums saw a slight dip from 37 million to 36.6 million visits, while those outside the capital fell by 3% and remain further below pre-pandemic levels. Visits by children dropped 10% year-on-year to 7.7 million. Overseas visitors rose 2% to 19.4 million but have not yet fully recovered.

Thousands of CEOs admit AI had no impact on employment or productivity—and it has economists resurrecting a paradox from 40 years ago.

In the 1980s, economist Robert Solow made an observation that reminded economists of today’s AI boom: “You can see the computer age everywhere but in the productivity statistics.”
