Dressing chair. Highly figured & quarter sawn English oak with bog oak butterfly joints stabilising large characterful split in seat. Dovetails join the two parts of the back. The seat is hinged at the front & can be raised from the rear to access a compartment under the seat.

Maker (21 cms high, 50 cms wide & 12cms deep). Hand carved English oak. Experimenting with Shou Sugi Ban. The piece was scorched, alarmingly, with a blow torch, then wire brushed and oiled with Rustins Danish oil. This scorching process, originating in Japan, creates an insect repellant surface resistant to rot and suitable to be left outside.
