At a well-designed event, a photobooth is never just a photobooth.

Yes, it looks cool as hell. And who doesn’t love a retro throwback? 📾
But it’s also a shared experience, a moment captured and something tangible to take home.

And that thinking goes into every choice we make.

We recently brought 100 people together for a summer festival celebrating a company’s 10th anniversary. Recognition and reward were right at the heart of it. đŸŠ©

🏆 Personalised details and playful awards
🎯 Team games
đŸŽ¶ Live music
đŸ„‚ A proper evening celebration

None of it was there just because it looked fun, although it absolutely was.

Every detail had a job to do. To make the milestone feel personal, get people involved and create something genuinely worth celebrating.

Then event morning arrived
 along with 37°C heat. đŸ„”

Key pieces of tech went down. Replacement equipment was sourced quickly, and the day carried on exactly as planned.

Because that’s our job too.

We start with the reason. We design the experience around it. And if something throws a spanner in the works, you’d better believe we’re fixing it before you’ve even noticed. 🚀

That’s event magic baby.

Everyone romanticises starting a business.
But people rarely talk about what happens when it starts working 🚀

We went from 4 people to 9 in under a year, and the first thing we had to reevaluate wasn’t the client work or the time management.

It was our culture.

If something matters to your culture, you have to actively design for it. You can’t just hope it survives growth. When you’re small, people naturally absorb how things are done. As you grow, that gets harder.

So what’s helped us?
đŸŠ© New joiners see our culture modelled from day one, not just told about it
👋 Leadership goes first. Our wellbeing and flexibility policies mean nothing if we don’t practise them ourselves
❀ We hold each other to it daily (ask Flo about her mindful lunches))

We’re still figuring plenty of this out. Frankly, we always will be.

But protecting the bits that make Strive feel like Strive? That’s something we’re never leaving to chance.

The best events feel effortless.
Which is quite funny really
because they absolutely are not 😂

What attendees see is the smooth bit:
đŸŠ© The room flows
đŸŠ© People know where to go
đŸŠ© The energy builds in all the right places
đŸŠ© Everything feels considered, not over-engineered

Behind that?

A floorplan that’s been checked, challenged, tweaked, walked through, re-checked and stared at for way WAY too long.

Because ‘seamless’ means every detail is planned around the guest experience

From how people enter the space, to where conversations happen, to how the room shifts between moments.

This carousel shows the plan vs the ex*****on
The behind-the-scenes thinking vs the event day magic.
The effort vs the effortless-feeling

That’s where the Strive magic happens đŸŠ©

A few moments from a recent employee summit our flamingos recently delivered!
Featuring... a Crystal Maze-inspired team challenge 🔼

This community manager was especially jealous that they couldn’t join in with this one.

These pictures probably aren’t what you expect from the typical employee summit.
And that’s because summits are funny things...

On paper, they’re simple enough:
People in a room, tick!
Work through an agenda, tick!
Share the direction, tick!
Make sure the coffee doesn’t run out, double tick!

đŸ€” But that doesn’t sound like it’d be super fun and memorable now, does it?

A well-designed summit gives people a bit of space from the office vibe. A chance to hear what’s happening in the business (in a way that lands, not bores) but also a chance to build bonds between teams. Create those “oh! you’re the person I’ve been emailing for six months” conversations, while you’re giggling about rolling a crystal down a makeshift funnel.

That’s where we see culture show up.

Super proud of this one! Flamingos, you smashed it đŸŠ©đŸ’Ș

Have you ever accused your boss of murder?
😈 That’s what we got up to at May’s Strive Social.

We donned our capes, our fringes, our smudgey eyeliner, and headed to the castle (Covent Garden) last week for Lily’s Strive Social! And if you haven’t guessed, the team got stuck into the BBC Traitors experience.

What. A. BLAST!

As avid Traitors fans, especially our lovely 🍒 Phoebe Cherry this was the ultimate activity for Team Strive.

Who were the traitors, I hear you ask.
Beth Spacey AND 🍒 Phoebe Cherry!

And, I can confirm, they did a great job. Maybe too great...
👀 We’ll keep an eye on them

If you fancy a Traitors experience for your own team, drop us a message, and we’d love to bring your Scottish Castle dreams to life. We’ll throw in a Claudia impressionist for free, as long as you don’t mind it being me, hehe.

“Engagement follows when people feel seen, not just surveyed.”

That’s from Mann at Zinc, and it’s one of the best things we’ve heard in our five years of working in employee engagement.

For our blog this month, we asked 4 people leaders at the top of their game to share what they’ve seen successfully drive employee engagement.

Simple, no-corporate-jargon, actionable ideas that are sure to work and not overwhelm you (or break the bank).

Thank you so so much to:
John Johnston @ IKEA
Luca Zingale @ Innocent Drinks
Sophie Mann @ Zinc
Katelyn Hilburn @ Process Street

Drop the insight that resonated most with you in the comments. We’d love to know!
And if there’s a question you’d like us to ask people leaders in our next blog, tell us below.

Something we hear a lot from people leaders:
“We care about engagement, and we’re doing the surveys, planning the socials, checking in with managers
but it still feels hard to know what’s actually working.”

And honestly, that makes sense!
People teams are carrying a LOT right now.

They’re being asked to build connections across remote, hybrid, fast-growing teams. To support managers who are stretched. To create culture when free time is rare and budgets are tight.

But over the last 5 years, we’ve seen that the companies making real progress aren’t the ones with endless resources...

They’re the ones acting clearly, compassionately and consistently.

This is exactly what we heard when we asked HR leaders from IKEA, Innocent Drinks, Zinc and Process Street what they’ve seen work within their teams.

Honest lessons from the people living it every day.

A huge thank you to our brilliant collaborators:
John Johnston @ IKEA
Luca Zingale @ Innocent Drinks
Sophie Mann @ Zinc
Katelyn Hilburn @ Process Street

British weather: 0

May at Strive had a bit of everything:

đŸŠ© A brilliant company summit, despite the weather doing its absolute most
đŸƒâ€â™€ïž Phoebe leading an energised 5k at one of our events
đŸ‡©đŸ‡Ș Flo smashing it in Germany with a client
📍 Lizzie and Char discovering fab new venues at IMEX (and winning some CRAZY prizes)
💡 Lily and Beth bringing back fresh ideas from the Employee Engagement Summit

Busy month. Brilliant people. Soggy shoes.

Even the worst weather couldn’t stop us from creating live experiences that help teams connect and make them feel truly valued.

☀ Ironically, I’m now writing this caption as a heatwave is forecast?!

But until then, here’s what May looked like at Strive 👇

We don’t just deliver events.
We look after the people delivering them

April marked the first time we had the entire Strive team onsite since our newest flamingos joined the flock, and it SHOWED! Not just in the seamless delivery, but in the energy behind it too.

Because here at Strive we know that...
đŸŠ©Event days are intense. Long hours, high pressure, constant moving parts.
đŸŠ©It’s easy to forget the basics, like sitting down, drinking some water, and eating something that isn’t a snack bar.

That’s why we look out for each other. Always.

đŸ„€ Running drinks to the backstage crew
đŸœïž Making sure no one misses a meal
😂 And yes
the occasional impromptu trolley reformer session

Because a team that feels good, works better.
And better teams deliver better results.

Here’s a little glimpse behind the scenes of the brilliant humans who helped bring a 4,000+ attendee conference to life.

Always immensely proud of our flock đŸŠ©
