Stories of Hope | World Su***de Prevention Day 2026

On Thursday 10 September, Lumiere Cinema Romford will host Stories of Hope, a powerful event marking World Su***de Prevention Day 2026.

Co-produced by members of Havering’s Su***de Prevention Lived Experience Advisory Group (LEAG), alongside Havering Adult College and Havering Public Health, the event will feature a short film exploring su***de prevention, recovery, hope and lived experience.

Through storytelling and open conversation, the event aims to challenge stigma, encourage conversations and promote greater understanding of su***de and mental health.

📅 Thursday 10 September
📍 Lumiere Cinema, Romford

There are two sessions to choose from, both featuring the film screening and a live Q&A:
🎬 Afternoon: 2pm–5pm
🎬 Early evening: 5pm–6.30pm

Please note that these are separate events and require individual registration.

Save lives. Surrender knives 💙

Romford BID is proud to support Havering Council and partners in the Home Office’s Knife Surrender Scheme, helping to make our town centre safer for everyone.

Earlier this week, a mobile surrender van operated by FazAmnesty visited Arcade Place, offering a safe, anonymous and non-judgemental way to surrender knives and dangerous weapons — no questions asked.

We also joined Havering Council, OpenView and Havering Community Safety to launch a new permanent Ninja Knife Surrender Bin outside Romford Town Hall. The bin has been donated by OpenView and Romford BID via World4Weapons.

This is the second permanent surrender bin in Havering, alongside the existing bin in Central Park, Harold Hill, which saw more than 270 knives and weapons surrendered in its first six months in 2025.

If you have a knife or dangerous weapon that you want to surrender, please use a designated surrender point and follow the guidance provided.

Together, we can help take dangerous weapons off our streets and make Romford a safer place for everyone 💙
