Self isolation, in other words, reducing contact with other people, is much more effective in reducing the epidemic than washing hands in infections that are transmitted by droplets / respiration.
Undoubtedly, the hands will be washed (now and always), but if there is an epidemic, isolation is the most important method of protection.
