🔎 ACS APPROVAL – ARE THE BIG SECURITY COMPANIES ACTUALLY APPLYING THEIR OWN SUPPLY CHAIN STANDARDS?

📢 G4S, OCS, Mitie and other major security providers – an important question regarding your supply chains.

🏢 Across the UK security industry, major contractors often place considerable emphasis on ACS approval when selecting security subcontractors and labour providers.

❓ But are the requirements being applied consistently across the services being delivered?

📊 Let's look at some interesting figures.
📌 Of the 667 ACS-approved companies holding Security Guarding (SG) approval, based on the figures reviewed:
🔹 233 companies (34.93%) hold ACS approval for Security Guarding ONLY.
🔹 205 companies (30.73%) hold ACS approval for Security Guarding and Key Holding ONLY.
📈 That's 438 companies – approximately 66% – without ACS approval for Door Supervision (DS) within these two categories alone.
💡 Now here's the interesting part.
🎟️ Major security contractors deliver and manage events, festivals, licensed venues and other assignments where Door Supervisor licences may be required.

🛡️ A few weeks ago, the S12 Security Guarding Leadership Group referred to a figure of around 458,000 people in the context of the UK security workforce. ⚠️ However, it is important that figures of this kind are described carefully, because the number of SIA licence holders should not automatically be treated as the number of people actively working in the security industry.

📊 The distinction matters.

📋 The SIA states that there are more than 458,000 individual licence holders across the UK, holding more than 517,000 licences between them. 👥 Some individuals hold more than one licence type, and holding a valid licence does not necessarily mean that the individual is currently working full-time — or even actively working — in a security role.

📑 The SIA’s own 2026–29 Strategic Plan also provides useful context about how people use their licences.

📈 Among first-time applicants responding to the SIA’s 2025 survey, 64% said they intended to work full-time.

🎪 15% of responding first-time applicants intended to work at events.

📅 Among responding licence renewers, 22% worked in seasonal events.

🔄 25% of responding licence renewers worked flexibly for multiple employers.

📉 The SIA states that licence renewal rates have remained at around 50%.
