Not all dogs like other dogs. It is kind of weird when you think about, that we as humans expect our animal to love each dog they see. Yet we don’t feel that way. In fact I feel like there are lots of people I see in coffee queues, ordering food, on school what’s app groups who I just think - WTF is wrong with you? And I actively avoid, try not to interact with them etc!

I got asked this week if dogs can take an instant dislike to another dog. And my reply is yes. I have no scientific backing for this, I just believe it to be true. I’ve seen it happen. I know that other creatures, people and situations can trigger emotions within me so why would it not to our dogs. There are also habitual and historical or experiential reasons why this could happen too so let’s not overlook those. But the reality is, we are all making instant decisions based on what we see, witness, feel and our dogs are not any different. It’s that level of understanding I want to help you have with your dog. Not just a simple ‘my dog doesn’t like something so I tell them off for letting me know’ as that leads to heaps more issues.

Pip and Archie co exist beautifully. They don’t love each other as in they sleep together and play all day. But they like each other’s company, they don’t encroach on each other and they offer each other companionship. Last night Pip lay down after supper and Archie followed. Pip let Archie lay touching him. It’s those kinds of details I look for.

I promise you don’t need to navigate owning a dog on your own 🫶

Ive raised puppies, foster dogs, rescue dogs and adult dogs. And it’s where all my methods have come from.

This one viewer, on this one day changed my life and the way I work with dogs forever.

After my Neuro surgery and with a 4mnth recovery period, I could no longer work in the way I used to. This op changed everything about me, physically, mentally and my work life. The Wonder Club was born (my membership club for dog owners) and I set about creating easy to digest, easy to implement, practical mini courses, downloads and help for my clients around the world - who are busy women who adore their dogs, but who don’t want another huge to do list. Just like me.

Im placing this here as it was one of the biggest milestones of my life. Thank you all for supporting my small business, this is the kind of reality behind the humans running businesses. Xx

P.S. I’m not a fan of the title they chose to give me, but if it helps spread the word, gets someone to read it, gets some to see the GP with an idea of what could be wrong. Or it helps someone find me and learn about their puppy or dog, then I’ll accept it. Please don’t be snarky in the comments or it will be deleted.

Is it just me or do you feel it too sometimes? 🙌🏼

What we did when I was too tired to do much…

Last night after school pick ups the dogs needed another walk. I was tired. My 9yo was moaning. So we walked to the cricket pitch near us, which was empty. I sat by the nets whilst she jumped around looking for lost cricket balls. And the dogs and I did this for 20 mins. And then wewalked home. It was blo*dy lovely. And we all felt better when we got home.

This is your reminder, not every walk needs to be monumental, epic, exciting, interesting. Your dog just wants to be with you. That’s it.

🙌🏼 When Buttons first arrived, we put things in place to help her learn about her new world, about recall, about focus and she’s living her dream life with who put all the hard work in from the v beginning.

This is what unites all my clients, their love, their adoration & they desire to improve their dog’s life with them.

P.S. tell me how you found settling in your rescue dog?…⬇️

It has been years but it hurts so very much. I should be asleep but instead I am wide awake thinking about my deaf dog, Cookie. She died many years ago. But it still gets me, it still hits me at weird moments, punches to the heart when at 1.19am on a random Tues night I remember, she is never coming back. And I get broken all over again. The loss is so vast, so entrenched in me that I know I will truly never accept it. I just want you to know, if you have this too, if you are going through it or have been through it - I can’t dress it up but I can say all this hurt was worth it a million times over to get to spend 10yrs with the best baby unicorn that ever walked this earth.

Grief for our dogs is real. It’s hard. And it’s huge.

Your dog’s safe place? For Ted- it’s the car. We don’t know why and we will never will. He came to us when he was 5yo but my dad’s van and any car are his safe places. He tries to get in them when he’s tired, when he’s overstimulated you can take him there and he settles immediately. It’s the most amazing thing.

Where is your dog’s safe place? Tell me….🔓

An incredible moth landed on Pip’s snout this afternoon and I think it’s incredible. And I wanted to share it. Because these things happen in Disney movies and not IRL. Until today 😂 🦋x🐕

Let’s apply this to our dogs:

🐕 The barking dog may be making a noise because they are scared

🐕The quiet dog may be petrified

🐕The dog lunging and snarling may be in pain

🐕The silent dog may be getting ready to bite

The loudness or the silence of your dog is not their biggest indicator. As a behaviourist I look at everything and all of it. Make sure you don’t use your dog’s noise levels as the main way to judge how they feel. As it often won’t marry up how we expect it to.

🙌🏼Share this with dog lovers in your network. Xx
