Iran names regional energy sites as targets if war resumes

Iran has signalled that it is preparing for another round of war with the US, and the targets it now names include the region's oil and gas facilities. CNN says Revolutionary Guard commanders have made that case for a month, and on Monday an IRGC adviser said missiles were ready for energy infrastructure across the region if Iran is attacked.

That threat depends on the US resuming hostilities, but prices were already firming. Summer 2027 power and gas closed Friday up 1.5% and 1.72%, and on Monday morning power was up another 1.5% and day-ahead gas another 1.4%.

Hormuz lifts the front while the curve behind holds back

Friday's close pulled in two directions. Continued tanker attacks around Hormuz lifted the front, with Summer 27 gas up 1.29% at 5.13p/kWh and power up 0.84% at 11.8p/kWh.

Day-ahead gas fell 1.21% and summer 2031 gas closed unchanged, so the worry sits in the coming season rather than today's supply or the years beyond. The weekend set up a second tug of war. Trump says Russia and Ukraine have agreed an energy ceasefire, which would ease European gas, but Zelensky says strikes on power sites continue, and the tanker attacks have not stopped. EU storage at 73.6% against a 90.2% norm keeps the coming season exposed whichever side wins.

Iran says Hormuz stays shut, gas firms across the curve

Iran's parliament speaker has said the Strait of Hormuz stays closed until Tehran's conditions are met, and the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency reports another tanker struck by a projectile in the strait, engine room damaged, crew safe.
Against that, Friday's close, the last one we can measure, had gas firming right along the curve, with Summer 2028 up most at 2.3% and Summer 2032 barely moving.
Power was less united, because Summer 2028 led again while Winter 2030 and Winter 2031 slipped. So the far end is not simply following gas - any significant upward movement this week will reduce optimism that came from the stagnation/slight selloff seen over the past few weeks.
