Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing!

Consistency is the key when it comes to discipline, it doesn’t matter how talented you are, or how many opportunities you receive, to reach your goals you need consistency.

So, what is it that you want?

More time with your family?
To increase your overall productivity?
To declutter your wardrobes?
To re-decorate your house?
To create a work / life balance?

Here are 3 small tips to create consistency so you remain disciplined:

Firstly, align your methods of motivation to your personality…What do I mean, well what makes you tick?

I.e. Are you someone who is motivated by competitiveness and is driven by results?

OR

Are you someone who’s easily distracted so prefers to make things fun to keep you engaged?

OR

Are you someone who struggles to make decisions, so you enjoy working in collaboration with others?

Alternatively

Are you someone you seeks all the information before you make a decision, so you prefer to work with to-do lists?

Once you have an understanding of your personality type, you can then develop a routine that plays to your strengths.

Secondly, to reach your goals you need to grow personally (step out of your comfort zone), so make a list about the qualities you feel you need and then find a way to motivate yourself into developing these attributes.

i.e., You want to speak to an auditorium full of people about something you’re passionate about, yet your terrified of public speaking?

Could you start by speaking in front of a small group of friends and family, or perhaps take a course or class in public speaking?

Thirdly, the more ways you find to pursue your personal growth on a daily basis, the more likely you are to achieve your goals. Think of the immediate benefits as well as long-term ones.

I.e., if you like challenges, set yourself a time limit to try something new…

The more ways you find to enhance your preferred way of working, the more you’ll be motivated and grow.

I know that a few people believe that buying a bigger home is the solution to all their ‘clutter needs’. However, the reality is, the more rooms you have, the more clutter you seem to acquire. Like anything, our lives are on a timeline and are continuously evolving; they might include civil partnerships, marriage, kids, divorce or starting a business from home… all these factors demand that our homes adapt and cater to our needs at every life stage.

Due to Covid-19, many of us are now working from home, so this is a prime example of our homes having to adapt to a situation.

Creating a home that’s suited to your requirements, means your first step is to define what your needs are, what rooms can accommodate them and the most important thing, what you need to declutter within your home to harmonise and maximise the space.?

Negative self-talk is part of how we think. It’s unwelcome and unproductive, but it’s also part of normal life.

The reason....Well, apparently we’re naturally predisposed to seeing what’s wrong rather than what’s right.

But did you know you can, reduce and manage your negative self-talk?

The first part to this is to understand you’re not your self-talk.
I know, it’s a weird concept to get your head around but think “I have thoughts, but I’m not my thoughts”.

For example; If you have a voice in your head telling you that you suck at something, you’ll always lose, because there’s no way to win an argument against yourself and no matter how good you think you are at fighting with your own thoughts, do not engage yourself.

Instead, what you need to do is release the negative self-talk.

So, when your thoughts say, “you won’t succeed in decluttering your house because you’re not capable.”

Just accept the thought, say ‘thank you’ and move on.
The power of saying thank you to yourself is huge.

When we don’t give energy to negative self-talk, it goes away and dies out. We use gratitude and acceptance to starve that little crackling fire of oxygen before it can spread.

It’s a basic technique and it takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of not arguing with yourself, the negativity will go away, and when it does, you’ll have room to replace it will something like “I can pull this off, I’ve got this.
