In entrepreneurship you have to roll with the punches.

Some days go your way, some don’t.

You can’t let defeat go to your heart, or success to your head.

Fortunately my career in sales taught me how to do this.

A sales floor teaches you valuable lessons you’ll need in entrepreneurship.

Lessons about yourself and about others.

Earlier this week I shared my story about HMRC screwing me over (you can read more in the link in comments below).

After 1.5 hours on the phone yesterday to them, 6 different department transfers, 8 different people, I’m no further forward to them refunding me.

Anyway, we move.

Today I am letting it go. I’m not giving it anymore energy or focus.

It’s important to identify what you can control, what you can influence and what you can’t control.

Then let go of what you can’t control and focus on what you can control and can influence.

When we focus on what we can’t control we stay stuck. We feel frustrated. We go into a negative cognitive/content loop.

When we focus on what we can control and can influence, we make progress. Progress makes us happy. And most importantly, progress gets results.

I coach lessons on this, with tools for how to perform under pressure and control your mind/focus, in both my career and sales/business coaching programmes.

The things I teach now aren’t from an online course I once sat.

They are lessons from real life, lived experiences and over a decade of learning the hard way of making the mistakes myself and being trained how to overcome them.

I love that I’m now able to help others learn faster. Work smarter and less hard.

Some lessons are more effective when we learn the hard way, by getting incredibly uncomfortable. Some lessons are far more enjoyable when you get a coach and learn the fast and less painful way.

My son is nearly two years old — and HMRC still hasn’t paid the maternity refund they legally owe me 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’m ever the optimist and prefer to share positive stories online and spread good vibes into the world, but today I’m angry.

As a small business owner of a limited company, you have to pay your own maternity pay first, then wait for HMRC to refund it.

✅I did everything by the book.
✅Submitted every document.
✅Followed every process.

They delayed paying me my refund to this month… “First week of December 2025” we’ll get round to dealing with you, they said. Shockingly late, if you ask me.

The refund in total is about 7k, it includes some other bits they owe me.

I was looking forward to receiving that money last week.

It’s a time of year where having kids pulls at your heart strings, but it also pulls at your purse strings.

Presents, visits to meet Santa, parties, activities etc… not to mention the winter sickness that impacts your working capacity when your little one is sent home from nursery.

As a small business owner and mum, juggling things this time of year is tough.

So when last week came and went, with not a peep for HMRC, my accountant offered to chase them up. The reply we received yesterday is that they are busy and they’ve delayed my refund again until April 2026, next year.

2026, what an absolute joke?! 😲

By that time, my son will be two years old!

I couldn’t type yesterday as I was so livid/frustrated/outraged, understandably so right?!

Small business owners should not have to bankroll their own maternity or spend years fighting for money the government is legally obliged to return.

It’s not just frustrating — it’s disgraceful.

This isn’t just an inconvenience. It places massive financial pressure on small businesses already stretched thin.

❌Small business mums shouldn’t be punished for having children.

❌We shouldn’t be left out of pocket for almost two years.

❌And we shouldn’t feel helpless against a system that is supposed to support us.

Is anyone else experiencing HMRC delays like this?

“I’m not feeling myself anymore.”

That’s what I hear so many women say once they become mums.

The truth is, we’ll never feel like the person we used to be, because that person is long gone and we’ve become a new version of ourselves. Everything changes in a flash.

The thing is… this doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

I feel the problem comes when we try to find that old person we used to be, rather than seizing the opportunity of embracing this new version of ourselves, identifying our new superpowers and playing to these strengths.

I’m now running a business through the eyes of a mother. With new unlocked levels of drive, motivation, vision, empathy, gratitude, strength and courage.

This is going to be my most powerful season yet.

Yes, it will be messy and scrappy at times, but this is what the early days of entrepreneurship are like, until you find your rhythm and flow.

The key to success is embracing change and finding your new path, rather than resisting it and trying to walk the old path that no longer exists.

Wabi-Sabi is my motto for the year ahead. Appreciating the beauty in the imperfection, accepting what is and remembering that everything is impermanent.

2025, I may be slightly late to the party, but I am here and I am ready 🙋🏼‍♀️🙌🏼

When I launched my business in 2021, I had 3 key drivers…

💡Impact - Help empower women and address gender inequality in business.

💡Freedom - Location freedom, time freedom and financial freedom. Work where I want, when I want, with who I want, anywhere in the world. Allowing me to prioritise doing the things I love, with the people I love and enjoy life.

💡Life - Have happy healthy relationships and a family.

I called this vision my “Promised Land”.

I knew exactly what I wanted my life to look like and more importantly, FEEL like.

Success is a feeling, so it’s important to dig deep and figure out what gives you the amazing feelings you dream of.

I knew the corporate world couldn’t take me to my Promised Land, so I set out to carve my own path in entrepreneurship.

These past 3 years have been life changing for me.

I can’t believe how fast things can change when you have a clear vision, a plan and then take action.

We all have the power to do this, these results live on the other side of risk and action.

🥳2023 was my most successful year in business yet, full of adventure and outstanding results for my clients.

🏡Then 2 weeks ago I completed on, and moved into a beautiful Victorian cottage in Hertfordshire, a house I’d dreamed of owning.

🤰🏼Now, in a few weeks time I’m going to welcome a little human into the world! I feel so blessed and excited and know this will be my greatest adventure yet.

I’m just an ordinary girl, giving things a damn good go and my clients are the same.

Thank you to everyone who’s continued to support me.

When my little friend arrives I’ll be off for a couple months, will do light duties for a few months, then will return to my usual operating rhythm in summer. I have Chief Cuddlers lined up to support us.

When you work smart & less hard, you have the freedom to create and enjoy the life you dream of. I’ve done this for myself & empower other women to do the same.

Over the past year I’ve watched Katie grow into a powerful businesswomen. ​​​​​​​​

Like many of the women who come to me, Katie first struggled with believing she could be the business owner she dreamed of being. She couldn’t see how she could grow her business or have the confidence to do what was needed. ​​​​​​​​

I had the absolute BEST morning today at the event with hosted by 🙌🏼

Such an inspiring, collaborative, warm, intelligent and passionate room of women.

I feel energised, motivated and made so many new peers and friends today. So many new ideas are flowing 💡

One of my absolute favourite things about entrepreneurship is the incredible women I’ve been fortunate enough to meet and spend time with.
