A couple of days ago, I had a 'dip day'. A day where I wondered whether I had made the right decision about leaving traditional employment in order to set up my own business. The doubts were there from the morning and increased throughout the day. Towards the evening, I went for a walk. The birds were singing, the sun was warm and the ground was dusty under my feet. Although the doubts remained when I returned home, I felt refreshed and after a good night’s sleep, the negative thought process had almost dissipated. Of course, there will always be doubts when a change takes place, especially when something as fundamental as making a living is involved. The following day, with a rested mind, I acknowledged that I am, after all, only five weeks into my freelance life. Early days, after almost three decades of employment. I will therefore sit tight, whilst believing in my own abilities and letting the dust from my old life settle. This week, I learnt that according to neuroscience, our brains work ‘most creatively’ at 3 miles per hour. So, fresh air and exercise not only serve as a wonderful temporary panacea to everyday life, but also provide headspace to enable positive thoughts to return, during those dip days. As a result, this week I have returned to my freelance pursuits, enlivened and with renewed positivity.
