This week, our creative partners at , who we are working with to bring the Hornsey Town Hall Arts Centre to life, treated the FEC team to a great evening at another one of their exciting projects at

We experienced the extraordinary sound studio and enjoyed clips from Bohemian Rhapsody, followed by an inspiring Q&A with Oscar and Bafta winner, .

In this video, Regine takes us on a tour of the Assembly Hall Entrance at Hornsey Town Hall and details the work going into its restoration.

The renovation of any existing building, listed or not, is a challenging undertaking. However, listed buildings require bespoke solutions, customised to respect the building’s historic identity and to safeguard what it will stand for in the future.

From the doors, to the panels and even the lighting, every element of the original Assembly Hall Entrance will be there so that a new generation of people can enjoy its historic charms.

When it comes to the lighting design for the green outside , Eleanor Brooke from ensured the design careful incorporated contemporary lighting requirements and heritage aesthetics.

“We worked with a lighting consultant to develop a scheme including both modern and replica fittings. Using archival research, we were able to draw up details for two fittings that will be recreated. The first is a lamp post with a suspended glass globe, a detail that is fairly typical of the period.

The second light fitting is more unusual – a hexagonal stone bollard with a lantern of the same shape at its top. This fitting will project low-level light onto the pavement. We also added to this detail, incorporating power and water supplies which can be used for events on the square’s green.”

The ongoing restoration of continues apace

In 2022 the doors will be reopened and Hornsey Town Hall will be a place to celebrate community, culture and enterprise. The beautiful building will be a host for our 5 pillars (Community + Events + Hospitality + Performance + Workspace) allowing us to push boundaires and create a dynamic hub for the community.
