We just published something we're genuinely proud of.

It started with a single question: why does food tell you more about a place than anything else?

The answer took us through the volcanic capers of Santorini, the organic gardens of Crete, a MICHELIN Guide restaurant in an 18th-century Venetian building on the Bay of Kotor, and a rooftop above Lake Lugano where Italy announces itself before the first course arrives.

It took us through the data, 80% of luxury travellers now choose where they go based on what they'll eat. And it took us somewhere personal, to the Italian roots of why The Modern Luxury exists at all.

Something personal today because I think it says everything about why The Modern Luxury exists.

I am Italian. In Italy, food is not a category of experience. It is the experience. My grandmother didn't just cook, she taught. Every dish was a lesson in place, identity, and what it means to truly belong somewhere. I have carried that with me through every country I have ever visited, every table I have ever sat at.

When I travel, I look for the moment a place reveals itself through what it feeds you.
Right now, Santorini gives me that more than anywhere else. The capers grown in volcanic soil, briny, intense, like the sea distilled into something you can eat. The cherry tomatoes, small and almost absurdly flavourful, unique to this island's basalt earth. The Assyrtiko wine, with mineral notes so distinctly volcanic you taste the island before you think about anything else.

I created The Modern Luxury because I wanted to build a company around properties that understand this. Places where the food is rooted in the place. Where the kitchen belongs to the destination.

Santo Collection in Santorini is one of those properties and one we represent proudly. Their gastronomy philosophy is built around the island's own producers and organic gardens. Their wine list honours indigenous Santorinian grapes and volcanic terroir. Alios Ilios has won Best Greek Cuisine three consecutive years.

And I am beyond excited to share that I will very soon be heading there for a Fam Trip experiencing Santo Collection properly, sitting at their table, walking their gardens, and bringing back everything I learn to share with the travel advisors in our network.
