It is a great honour to serve as the Chair of The Marr Munning Trust
Snippet of my official acceptance message is below:
Sharing Some Exciting News!!
I am genuinely delighted and honoured to serve as the Chair of The Marr Munning Trust. Grant-Making Trust was founded in 1970 by philanthropist Frank Harcourt-Munning to alleviate poverty and suffering in the developing world. Our funding targets education and uplifting the livelihoods of marginalised communities in the Indian Sub-Continent, Sub Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia.
I am so grateful for this fantastic opportunity because it will allow me to pursue my passion for addressing global economic inequities and social injustice. As some of you may know, I was born and raised in Malawi, Southeast Africa, one of the most economically challenged countries globally. I grew up seeing how poverty can cripple and stifle people’s visions and limit their existence in the vineyards of despair. I grew up seeing how poverty impacts all spheres of life. So my role as the new Chair for the organisation is indeed a calling. I was raised by a father who was genuinely committed to public service. He instilled in me the obligation to play a vital role in creating a fairer society for all. I was brought up in a collectivist culture that believes in the philosophy of “Umunthu”, which means “I am because we are”.
I am therefore delighted to lead The Marr Munning Trust on its next three-year strategic plan with a vision to create a world of empowered people free from poverty. As the Chair, my role will focus on working very closely with the rest of the board and our Chief Executive to achieve our strategic goals. In addition, I look forward to working with all our key stakeholders to lead The Marr Munning Trust on its next phase.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been instrumental on this journey. Starting with the board of directors for entrusting me with Chair, the immediate past Chair, Stewart Hicks, for laying the foundation for the next phase of our strategic growth and capacity building. Sebastian Wilson, our Chief Executive Officer for ensuring that the organisation is operating with integrity and accountability and my father for encouraging me not only to dream big but to be of service to other.
