METACOMMUNICATION is a secondary communication about how a piece of information is meant to be interpreted. An indirect message if you will. For many years, Black women's hair has been a topic of contention in the workplace, where many have found that it's been listed as a reason for why they cannot progress to senior leadership during annual reviews. They've been told that their natural hair does not look ‘professional’. Be mindful of how you judge others, and learn more in "Don’t Touch My Hair” by .

Hi, we're , the journaling companion for PoC who are tired of hearing that “white men are the ones truly discriminated against". We so appreciate all the support we've received through spr/ngwell, and the opportunity to do an IG takeover this week. We thought we would use this opportunity to amplify a couple of melanated voices on the grassroots level in the UK who have been doing work related to race and injustice for a long time, as well as a couple of posts about the experience of being marginalised in the UK. ⁣

Hope you find it informative. ⁣

Much love, ⁣

INTERIOR MONOLOGUE OF A CREATIVE⁣

This was lifted from Adam Grant’s excellent TED talk about creativity and the power of procrastination (thanks Adam!). The link is in the bio, along with some Brené Brown vulnerability, because come on — it’s Brené freaking Brown, as if you don’t need to hear from her today. ⁣

Yours awesomely,⁣

YOU’RE BOOKED, MATE⁣

I’ve been seeing loads of these little doorstep book sales recently, and I love that people’s clear outs are also contributing to a good cause.⁣

Side note: I didn’t have any cash on me, otherwise I would have walked away with approximately 50% of these. A blessing in disguise given my bookshelf capacity situation, but regretful nonetheless.⁣

Second side note: is there some kind of quick fix digital solution to this no-cash problem, given that the stall operated under an honesty system?⁣

Yours legibly,⁣

QUACK TO BASICS

It's been a particularly depressing couple of days in the news, so here is an update on the last 24 hours in ducks!

Yep, that’s the post.

Yours ornithologically,

HELP / HUSTLE / HOPE: Three Key Considerations for Content in the Time of Coronavirus, from
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"There’s no denying that coronavirus is changing our lives in unprecedented ways. Much of this is negative — the health impact, lives lost and toll on our NHS and front-line workers, not to mention the financial impact, the panicking and stockpiling. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We're also seeing so many positive stories coming to light, acts of care and generosity. There are countless instances of individuals using their resources not just to sustain their business, but to help, hustle and provide hope — and these should be the basis of your coronavirus content pillars.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌟Help means showing *how* your business is helping. Always start with the ways you’re looking after your own staff, and your customers, as well as how you’re looking out for the most vulnerable people in the community.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌟Hustle is how you’ve changed your offering, or how your existing offering is well positioned to deliver a service that people need right now. Show people how you can support their new way of living during lockdown, and they will support you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌟Hope means remembering that people are anxious, scared and bombarded with grim news. Providing well-judged humour, entertainment, educational material and content which motivates can be extremely well received at these times."

Oh hey 👋⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Maybe it's just me (although 100% I know it's not), but I'm finding myself oscillating wildly between moments of extreme motivation and moments where my energy is on the floor, alongside a laundry basket of washing I cbf to put away.⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Now is not the time to be putting undue pressure on ourselves, so every time I feel tempted to agonise over the fact that I'm not getting s**t done, I just try to give myself a tiny break. There's a difference between quiet introspection and self-indulgent wallowing, sure, but each can be motivating in their own way, and also both have their place, regardless of their benefits.

For me, the key is just being able to identify which is which, and using that to figure out what to do next. Because sometimes I honestly think life is just about assimilating a whole lot of minuscule tasks into some kind of linear, achievable arrangement. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
So just on the off-chance you're having a motivated day, this is a little something retail futurist Doug Stevens said in his recent interview with Imran Ahmed of The Business of Fashion.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Oh and if you're not, I hope you're feeling validated in your choice of how to spend your time today — if it's Netflix, please send recommendations. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Yours attempting to be bothered to have a showeringly,⁣
