Respect is not just given; it’s earned—and it starts with us as leaders.

When we embody respect in our actions and words, we create a culture where everyone feels valued. Remember, the greatest leaders lift others up, not just themselves. Let’s lead with respect and watch our teams thrive āš”ļø

We don’t know what we don’t know.

How could we?

In the work we do, it’s often tough to help CEOs see that what got them here won’t get them there.

When we’re successful it’s hard to then adopt a perspective of not knowing. You fought hard for what you have; now I need to change it? No way!

Success, in this instance, isn’t for the best.

All businesses go through these stages. The founder needing to give away decision making rights to their team, but not being sure the team are ready to do it.

It’s nerve wracking, but contrary to what you know - letting go is actually (most likely) for the best.

Need some help with this? We tackle it head on.

I love to travel.

Getting out of the everyday and in to the unfamiliar forces me in to the present.

Vietnam is an incredible place, filled with the loveliest people.

How often do you adjust your leadership style?

Goleman (2000) suggests six different leadership styles:

1. Coercive: do what I say
2. Authoritative: follow me
3. Affiliative: people come first
4. Democratic: everyone has a voice
5. Pacesetting: I have high standards; you must also
6. Coaching: personal development over task-related work

Knowing when to use each style can be crucial when seeking to engage team members.

Similarly, in any given interaction, people need a certain style.

For example, the coercive style is very useful when a building is on fire.

However, when trying to empower people and have them take the initiative, perhaps a more affiliative, democratic or coaching style may work.

Knowing your people, asking them what they prefer and then being able to switch roles when necessary is key.

What’s your usual style?

And do you need to change it up more often?

When was the last time you actually stopped?

You’re working hard but still s**t just doesn’t seem to be getting done.

It doesn’t matter how many hours you spend at your desk or meeting with your team…your numbers are off and your team aren’t happy.

The default mode for most leaders is to throw yourself into next gear when things aren’t going right.

But if you really want to get closer to your targets, you have to stop and sharpen the saw.

Take some time to take stock and evaluate where you’re at and where you want to be… then you can figure out how to close that gap.

Working faster isn’t always the answer!

What was the last thing you learned?

The best leaders are learners - but It’s not always about reading the right books.

Some things you learn the hard way.

As a leader you’re guaranteed to f**k up at some point.

Not everybody wants to ā€˜fess up when they do, but these are the biggest opportunities for learning.

Look at what failure for what it can be… a chance to reevaluate, adapt and come back stronger than ever.

Experience like this is a great - and sometimes painful - teacher.

Think about the last time you got it wrong… what did you learn from your mistake?
