⁣Hello angels 👋✨⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Something a little different but I hope you enjoy this chatty sit-down video discussing the wonderful and giving you some insight into owning a secondhand device.⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I’ve been working with reboxed for a while and a couple of weeks ago I was invited down to an amazing panel event which inspired me even more to look at my consumption outside of fashion waste. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Reboxed are out here doing the lord’s work, inspiring people to donate and sell otherwise dormant devices and redistributing them to communities in need. ⁣
⁣⁣Ready for a secondhand device? Feel free to use my code ERIN15 for £15 off any device. I will also leave this link in my bio for you to use later down the line! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Any questions feel free to drop them below and tag reboxed so they can reach out to you! 💜⁣

⁣Did you know, there are around 50 million tonnes of tech waste produced every year? In fact, there is enough for every person in the world to carry 6kgs around with them annually. 🚮⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Fair Fashion Project has been a space to discuss fashion’s detrimental waste crisis (alongside challenging the injustice of garment workers and breaking down the industry’s environmental factors). However, overconsumption comes in all forms and actions such as replacing a 1-year old iPhone with an ever-so-slightly ‘better’ one has become almost habitual in Western society. I’m so pleased to be partnering with as a Future Maker to spread awareness of how we can minimise our tech waste and help others get connected. 💖⁣
⁣⁣
⁣With Reboxed, you can buy a secondhand device, sell your old devices for cash or credit or even let the team at Reboxed help you recycle (the right way!) a completely broken phone with one of their partners. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Take your close friends and family for example — how many phones do you think are sat unused in drawers at home? Could these phones be put to better use? There are currently 7 million people in the UK who do not have access to the internet. With the help of and and their Community Calling campaign, Reboxed are collecting smartphone donations and redistributing them to those who need them most. If you have a spare phone with no cracks on the screen and that holds charge, why not donate it?! 🤝⁣
⁣⁣
⁣80% of a mobile phone’s carbon footprint occurs during the manufacturing process, so think again before you upgrade and try a secondhand model! Please save this post to come back to later and I’ll be back soon with a video discussing my experience with my Reboxed secondhand device and how I donated my current phone! 📲✨⁣

Swipe for the inspo that stopped me in my tracks 👉⁣
⁣⁣
⁣How many pairs of shoes do you own? I just had a count — I own 17 pairs of shoes. Only 6 of those are on regular rotation all year round. And when I want to get rid of a pair that are on their last legs? I panic to be totally honest. How can we recycle our old shoes effectively? ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Let’s take running trainers, for example. Out-running us, this category (their soles often made of PVC) only start to decompose after 11,994 months — that’s a couple on months short of a 1000 years. .clothing are a fantastic initiative, (responsible for that thought provoking window installation at ) who collect high quality secondhand running clothing and equipment for you and I to enjoy preloved. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣How do we consume shoes with a less wasteful mindset? Some helpful tips: ✍️✨⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🦉Regular maintenance over “running your shoes into the ground”. I used to buy a pair of Office leather ankle boots EVERY year because I wore down the heel so badly. I would take them to be re-heeled and most cobblers would politely tell me they couldn’t be saved. ⁣
⁣⁣🦉Invest in shoe trees that maintain shape, dust bags/storage boxes and good quality polish and protective products to keep shoes looking in good. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🦉When buying new shoes, do your research! Are the materials durable? Are these shoes likely to sit in landfill for hundreds of years? Are they great quality? Will I care to look after them? ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🦉Find shoe brands that have a take-back recycling scheme. Companies who take responsibility for their waste are fantastic (you can often get money off your next pair too!) are great for this! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🦉Steer clear of fleeting shoe trends. Arguably, shoe trends come and go as quickly as clothing trends. Be mindful of silhouettes and opt for styles you will enjoy years down the line. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🦉 Spend time sussing out local recycling services and upcycling initiatives. What might look old and tired to you might be an exciting upcycling project for someone else! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Save this post to come back to the tips at a later date 💖⁣

I almost didn’t want to make this post because Shein really don’t need any more publicity - but here we are 🤷‍♀️⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Tonight, Shein will air a new reality TV show where 5 fashion designers will compete for a prize of $100K and a capsule collection with Shein. But what about the myriad independent designers who have their designs stolen around the clock? Where is their $100K?⁣ Is this just a huge publicity stunt to get us all riled up?
⁣⁣
⁣Stealing designs from independent designers is something that Shein have done from the word go but 9 times out of 10 manage to go about their business unscathed. The independent designers, on the other hand, are left with the shock that the months of time, money and resources risked to create their collections are undermined by a $10 replica overnight. ⁣

𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗛𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗙𝗔𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗢𝗡 ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣There is no denying that greenwashing claims have become increasingly more difficult to navigate. I’ve become so accustomed to it in fact that I will quite literally silently eye roll at TV adverts without much further thought. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣But greenwashing gets even more frustrating when fashion brands use accountability to try and level with their customers. The ‘we know how bad we are but please hear us out’ effect. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Businesses are so quick to use that word ✨sustainable✨ but consumers are now (and rightly so) less engaged with over-saturated buzz words, used countless times by businesses who don’t take responsibility for their messaging.⁣
⁣⁣
⁣A genuinely ethical business does not deem themselves sustainable; they use the word incredibly lightly after doing the hard work behind the scenes. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Have you noticed any ‘performative honesty’ within the fashion space recently? ⁣

PSA: You still have 1 week to sign up to .movement 3 month fashion detox! 💚⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Sign up via their website and join me in committing to not buying new for 3 months from Thursday 1st July. For some, buying secondhand clothing might already be a concrete habit but this challenge is great for those looking to shop more consciously over time! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Maybe you have a friend that has an ASOS addiction that needs an intervention or a family member who has a wardrobe full of new clothes with tags on - share this with them and ask them to join! ⁣

It’s been a whole big fat year of FFP!! ✨💖♻️⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I honestly created this page a year ago to try and crack Photoshop and continue learning about slow fashion and look where we are?!! It’s been the most incredible surprise to be welcomed into such an amazing community! I’ve been so inspired by you and it’s been wonderful chatting and making friends. Thank YOU ❤️⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Running this FFP page is such a joy and unlike every instrument I’ve tried to learn, I’ve actually stuck with it 😎 shout out to my friends and family for the constant encouragement and support; sharing posts, articles and joining in on virtual events. I also find it really cute when you sheepishly tell me you’ve bought something from H&M or Zara like I’m going to hurt you 😂 ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Here’s to another year of wearing what we have, unlearning, relearning, demanding safety and fair pay for garment workers, pushing legislation, demanding degrowth from brands, and looking fabulous in secondhand clothes. ⁣

A couple of days ago, published an incredibly informative blog post discussing the Sustainable Products Initiative whilst also encouraging businesses that trade in Europe to give feedback by the 9th June.⁣
⁣⁣
⁣“This initiative is part of the European Green Deal and will revise the Ecodesign Directive, proposing additional legislative measures with the aim of making products placed on the EU market more sustainable, durable, reusable, repairable, recyclable, and energy-efficient. The initiative will also address the presence of harmful chemicals in products such as electronics and ICT equipment, textiles, furniture, plus steel, cement and chemicals.” - Positive Luxury⁣
⁣⁣
⁣✅ The initiative is challenging linear supply chains and providing incentives for companies to revise their products for more sustainable options. It will also tackle the life-span of products and planned obsolescence. The initiative hopes that alongside supporting the European Green Deal, it will also greatly contribute directly to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal, number 12, tackling responsible production and consumption. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I have linked the blog post in my bio, I really recommend giving it a read if you are interested in legislation within consumerism and how it can positively impact climate and social sectors. Also, any European businesses looking to join the initiative can hit the link in the article to find out more information! ♻️✨⁣

♻️🕺THE CONSCIOUS MAN🕺♻️⁣
⁣⁣
⁣The conversation of inclusivity comes up a lot in fashion sustainability or lack of, I should say. A lot of the time when the conversation of gender comes up in sustainable fashion it’s met with gender-less collections or minimalist style. But what about our male friends, family members or work peers who simply want to give ASOS and Zara the boot and find more ethical options or secondhand alternatives?⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Over the past year, I’ve loved finding myself in a community of women who love talking about slow fashion but I keep thinking about the people who aren’t always represented in fashion sustainability. I’ve spoken (a lot) with my Dad, my boyfriend, my male friends on this topic and they all have one thing in common - they care just as much as women do and they want to be a part of the conversation but finding sustainable fashion isn’t always accessible or affordable. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Is there less demand for sustainable menswear? Is there more stigma attached to men’s secondhand clothes? Is the issue down to accessibility and convenience? Let me know👇👇👇⁣

Ready, steady, .uk! ⏰♻️✨⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Earlier in the week, I posted a rental outfit from Rotaro, a UK based rental and resale platform! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣It was actually my first time renting (apart from the odd fancy dress costume back in the day) and I absolutely loved receiving a beautiful Rixo dress and Shrimps bag in the post! Honestly dressing up in clothes that I couldn’t dream of buying new made me feel v boujee without the guilt of ’splurging’ on clothing. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I hope that rental fashion continues to rise and people begin to normalise renting outfits for events over buying new (bonus points for rewearing your existing occasion wear). I do think, however, that rental fashion will need to appeal to the masses in order for it to take full flight - meaning that rental platforms would need to offer ranges which are completely size, age and gender inclusive. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Have you tried rental and what was your experience like? Let us know! 💃✨⁣

♻️ 5 Facts You Should Know If You Wear Clothes ♻️⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Changing Markets Foundation published their ‘Fossil Fashion’ report last week which although covers many topics, predominantly emphasises how the fast fashion business model is enabled by synthetic fibres. And the main issue? Synthetic fibres are quite literally destroying our planet. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I have linked this incredibly informative report in my bio - give it a read cover to cover or look over the key stats I’ve highlighted here in this post. The necessary information in this report might be news to someone so get sharing! ✨⁣
