Retox Music ***Music Supervision***

- Music Searches - Composing - Licensing - Full-service music supervision company Retox was founded by Alick Sethi in London in 2003.

His journey into the world of film soundtracks is not your usual career path. Whilst working on a PhD in chemistry he was captivated by the underground club culture taking over the London music scene, inspiring him to start a radio show, which was picked up by a national UK station. Alick enjoyed eight years of producing and presenting The Electric Café. This success empowered him to pursue a care

er in the burgeoning field of sync. Music and sound can establish a story and set up a universe very quickly and intuitively. Giving a brand a musical identity is no different from giving existence to a fictional character. This is why we believe that music supervision is a craft. Retox got its start by repping small indie labels and unsigned artists for soundtrack deals on TV commercials and movies. Concentrating on developing markets like Russia, Central Europe and Asia, it soon morphed into a full-service music supervision company.

Thank you to Kreatív magazin for interviewing me and writing this in-depth piece on my work as a music supervisor, my DJing passion, and my adventures and experiences in Hungary.

I enjoyed talking with writer Olivér Papp, who has written an enjoyable and informative article. Thanks also to Horvath Agnes for commissioning this piece.

Big love to Alexandra Solti for dreaming up this whole idea, Neményi Márton for the amazing photo session, and Stasya Sokolova for the DJ pic.

The article is written in Hungarian…

Aruna has been on team Retox for a while now, and her energy, vision and passion for the craft of music supervision is truly infectious.

I really enjoy working with her, and feeling the possibilities of what is to come.

Over the last few days she was representing Retox at , meeting existing colleagues and making new connections, as well as bumping into me…

Thanks to NETFLIX INDIA and Neményi Márton for making our first joint portrait possible!

New Work! And one that I am very excited about

An Indian film project that is very close to my heart and my internal compass is ready, and being curated in film festivals.

I am very proud to have worked on the score of the short film Manu, with writer / director Ganesh Pareek, and composer Christian Meyer.

The subject matter of Manu resonates deeply with me, from my own personal experiences and those of many people I have met and grown close to.

Manu touches in an elegant and poignant way on subjects such as toxic environments, narcissistic abuse, patriarchal structures, and the scars we carry within.

For now the film is on festival release only, and I hope to be able to share it on socials soon.

MANU — a film that listens to the silence we all carry.

Honoured to walk alongside this soul-borne journey as it prepares to echo at the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival this May.
For every moment unspoken, every memory unclaimed — this one is for the ones who feel without needing to explain.

Thank you so much Khaleej Times and Akheel Hussan for this feature!

The questions and insight from Akheel cut into my earliest musical memories, and really helped me to understand a lot of things about how I have developed my personal taste and my vocation as a music supervisor.

We also discussed the progress and potential of music supervision in India, referring to the case study of my contribution to the recent Netflix documentary ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous’.

Explore how Alick Sethi's diverse musical journey from 90s UK club scene to Sufi qawwalis shaped his career as a music supervisor for Netflix's Yo Yo Honey Singh documentary and Guns & Gulaabs.

From an interview to a collaboration!

I am happy to announce that Aruna Jade has started working with Retox Music as a music supervisor.

We met through her excellent podcast series, Music Mehfil, on which I guested last year. This led to more conversations between us, until the natural next step was to work together.

I have been really impressed with Aruna’s deep passion to all things music, her breadth of knowledge, and her commitment and desire to learn and practise music supervision. I’m sure that she will go far in her career, and will be a credit to all that we do at Retox.

I am looking forward to giving her a platform to express herself as a music supervisor, developing our work at Retox alongside her, and learning from her own experience and knowledge.”

Here’s to a better sounding future Aruna!

Says Aruna Jade:

“I’ve been interested in music supervision for quite some time now. I felt it's a potent way of high impact storytelling via music. And the potential that the existing music from India holds, thrills me. But I needed direction and guidance.

“I must say, I got lucky to have found Alick with his tremendous knowledge, exposure & experience globally, to show me how it's done. I'm not sure exactly when it began in terms of actively working together, but I love how naturally things just came about and I'm looking forward to more of that.

“Thank you for having me onboard Alick, cheers!”
