Capital Models Ltd

Capital Models Ltd Capital Models is a leading modelmaking company in East London. Your job will always be completed to a very high standard, on time and within budget.

Please note that pedestrian and courier access is from 25-27 Hackney Road. Capital Models was founded in 1994 by Robert Danton-Rees, whose 25-year career ranks him among the most experienced and talented model makers in the business. Now run by husband and wife team Robert and Marcia Danton-Rees, the company boasts a highly expert and creative team of professional model makers who combine traditional craft skills with the latest machine and computerised techniques. In addition, Capital Models’ investment in state of the art laser cutters enables the company to cut and engrave a variety of materials, suitable for many applications from making the delicate components of architectural models to creating props, trophies and point of sale items as one-offs or in large quantities. Over the years, long standing relationships have been built up with many of the UK’s leading architectural firms who return to Capital Models time and again in the knowledge that the job will always be well done, on time and within budget. Other regular clients include property developers, designers, photographers and event companies.

Over the years architectural model materials become brittle, adhesives dry out and colours fade, and we often find ourselves updating and repairing many ship models.

The delicate masts and upper decks of models such as these can be easily damaged and sometimes rather than transport them to our workshop, we travel to our clients.

We have our own modelmakers toolkit… an eclectic mix of brushes, tweezers, tape, cleaning fluids, mini air blower, vacuum, and to be honest, a lot of superglue!

To attend to these beautiful fragile objects is a delicate business and a passion to say the least!

We're so grateful for our lovely courtyard... Perseverance Works tucked away in the heart of busy Shoreditch!

Sometimes a change of scenery, and a bit of air is exactly what’s needed. Not a bad spot for a meeting in the shade of the beautiful willow tree!

We’ve been making these bespoke oak menu/sign holders WatchHouse for a couple of years now.

As the company expands, with Houses now in New York, Dubai and across London, their ethos of making each House feel recognisably ‘WatchHouse’ has not been lost. Ensuring quality, consistency, and craft, each House features the same attention to detail with everything coffee, design and hospitality... down to the bespoke menu and sign holders.

Simple but beautifully made in walnut, sapele and oak.

All lovingly hand-cut, sanded, lacquered, and fitted with discrete magnets here in our Shoreditch workshop.

WatchHouse make a damn fine coffee - check out their collections at one of their coffee houses - www.watchhouse.com

After many years of reliable use working on an abundance of projects we had to say goodbye to our old spindle head unit and now have a shiny new one!

The old one dismantled and boxed and ready for the tip where it will be stripped out and salvaged for parts.

Craft Meets Technology

While Capital Models was founded on traditional skills, we've never stopped evolving. In 2000, we purchased our first laser cutter, a decision that not only expanded our technical capabilities but ultimately led to the establishment of sister company Swordfish Works, our dedicated laser cutting and CNC brand.

What began as a single machine grew into a multi-machine setup featuring advanced laser cutters and a 3-axis CNC machine. With this expansion, we've began supporting an even broader spectrum of Shoreditch’s creative community, from artists producing intricate installations to designers crafting bespoke jewellery, furniture, signage, or experimental structures.
