A CCTV appeal has been launched after an assault left a Tube passenger needing eye surgery. The victim, in his 40s, challenged a stranger va**ng aboard a District line train from Sloane Square at around 6.40pm on November 11, the British Transport Police (BTP) said.

An argument ensued, spilling out onto the platform when the pair reached Westminster station. The suspect then punched the man in the face, fracturing his cheekbone and breaking his eye socket.

His vision has also been damaged by the shocking incident. Police are now turning to the public for help identifying a person of interest.

Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 613 of 11 November
