Giving feedback to someone can be daunting, particularly if what you have to say is negative. They may become: Defensive Angry Argue Tearful Now, the thing is - those things may happen but doing nothing may mean You could be judged a poor Manager of people.

Dear Mr Chancellor
I am extremely impatient to know and am waiting for you to confirm detail of what businesses are going to have to contribute to the Furlough Scheme from the 31st of July.

If what we have heard so far and from the press is right - it's going to be 25% plus 5% NI which is 30% of the total payroll for people on Furlough.
The big question of course?? - will there be an exception for businesses that just can't afford to pay 30% because they may not be open and still have no income.
Such as hospitality.
First to Shut …... Last to Open.
For many in hospitality this is a crunch point & will set the clock ticking about making decisions around redundancies before the Furlough Scheme changes on the 31st July 2020.

Hopefully we will find out soon, but I will, be tuning into today’s MCA Webinar – ‘The Conversation’ starting at 3pm today.

We will hear first-hand once again from business leaders and get some insight from people who are dealing with Government lobbying for hospitality.
You have my admiration for what you have delivered so far Mr Chancellor, but please, please make an exception for hospitality and give us your 100% support because this decision will impact real people who have real lives.
First to Shut …... Last to Open.

Who we are and what we do

So you might ask how someone who had a History of Art degree from Trinity, Dublin ended up being in hospitality.

Well the story goes that I chose the wrong career at the beginning!!

Like many before me, I probably did what was expected of me – namely to uphold the family name by going to University and then working in the National Gallery of Ireland for 5 years, and then in England at the Tate Gallery for a while.

Whilst working in the Tate Gallery I realised I was running out of cash - needed to get a part time job to be able to live and work in London as a 28 year old who wanted to have some fun.

So I got a part time job in a pub The Tattershall Castle, a large ship moored on the Thames.

That was how I came into hospitality - it was amazing working there and I loved it - it was the best fun. I met people from all over the world - IT was hard graft, it was busy but one day as I left the Tate to walk down the Embankment to work, I realised I was so glad to get out the door of the confines of the Tate and get down to my other job behind the bar on the deck serving hundreds of people on those summers evening.

I simply wanted to work there all the time - much to my mother's annoyance. As they say ....... the rest is history or perhaps it was simply art in the making.
