Today we celebrate International Security Officers Day - 24th July

The date isn't coincidental. 24/7 perfectly captures what our industry is all about - security professionals who are always on duty, always vigilant, and always ready to protect the communities and businesses they serve.

At ASG, we see first hand the dedication of our security officers who work around the clock to keep people safe. Whether it's our hospital teams supporting NHS staff and patients during difficult shifts, retail security professionals dealing with challenging situations whilst keeping customers safe, or corporate officers maintaining business security - they're the backbone of what we do.

Today feels like the right time to say thank you properly. To every ASG security officer for turning up when others might not. To security professionals right across the UK who do this job because they genuinely care about keeping people safe. To the families at home who understand why their loved ones work nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

"Too often, good security work goes unnoticed - that's actually the point. But the security industry is built on people who understand that keeping others safe is both a responsibility and a privilege. Today we recognise that commitment," says Jim McFedries, our Chief Business Development Officer.

The reality is simple - the work you do matters. Every shift, every patrol, every time you step in to help someone.
Thank you to every security officer - today and every day.

We are delighted that 2gether Support Solutions which is a subsidiary of East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust has appointed ASG to secure four major hospital sites across Kent - William Harvey Hospital, Kent & Canterbury Hospital, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, and Buckland Hospital.

This adds to our growing NHS portfolio where we provide healthcare security at ten NHS hospitals, healthcare security presents unique challenges that standard security simply can't address.

As Paul Grzegorzek, our NHS Account Director, puts it: "It’s protection through a tailored, risk-based approach. No two environments are the same, which is why we assess threats, vulnerabilities, and incident trends to build a clear picture of the unique security needs. ASG officers understand the complexities of healthcare environments and can work effectively to support the trust's colleagues, patients and visitors during challenging situations."

For security buyers in healthcare, we can provide a cost-effective solution using our risk-based approach that deploys officers based on the risk and need for them.

From leading security at the UK's biggest events to managing Mayfair's most exclusive brands—now Cameron Cottell is bringing that same security expertise to help promote our risk based solution by joining our business development team.

Five years ago, Cameron started as a Team Leader. Today, he's our new Business Development Manager, having learnt the back office and operation functions to successfully run our luxury retail operations across Knightsbridge and Mayfair.

Cameron's proven that high-end security principles - discretion, precision and proactive threat prevention - work just as effectively in luxury retail as they do at major events. Now he's applying this approach to help businesses in the corporate and distribution sectors who face increasingly complex security and budgetary challenges.

If you're reviewing your security strategy or tackling specific risks, please reach out to Cameron at [email protected] or +44 7813 177 847

A year ago, we began our partnership with Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.

What an incredible 12 months it's been!

Our dedicated security teams have delivered our risk-based security solutions, with exceptional service, keeping patients, staff and visitors safe, whilst maintaining the compassionate, professional standards that healthcare environments demand.

A huge thank you to every ASG team member who has contributed to this success. Your professionalism, dedication and care make all the difference.

To Chris Ford, Steve Lamley and all our NHS colleagues - thank you for your continued partnership and trust.

Here's to many more years of keeping our healthcare heroes safe.

A former counter terrorism police officer with award-winning security initiatives has joined the ASG team.

Dave Cox is our new Security Director at ASG, bringing extensive operational experience from both UK and international counter terrorism work, plus senior roles across major London developments like Kings Cross and London Bridge City. Dave has responsibility for the delivery of ASG's UK guarding operations.

Dave's focus is on prevention as much as on response. Too many security providers still operate in reactive mode, dealing with incidents after they happen. Dave's intelligence-led approach means creating safer environments before problems arise.

For security specifiers and buyers, this represents a fundamental shift. Instead of just responding to incidents, we're now even better positioned to prevent them from happening in the first place. Could that kind of strategic thinking protect your business and customers?

A Heartfelt Thank You and Congratulations to the St Helier Hospital Team.

Assist would like to extend our deepest thanks and heartfelt congratulations to the outstanding team at St Helier Hospital for their incredible teamwork, courage, and quick action in saving a woman’s life last week.

When the team received a distressing report that a woman was attempting to take her life in the hospital car park—with only a grey vehicle as the identifying detail—they responded without hesitation.

Led by Nana Jenkins, the team sprang into action. While the control room urgently reviewed CCTV footage, the on-the-ground team spread out to locate the vehicle. Thanks to the sharp eyes of Shani Baldwin, who spotted the car, she and Nana were the first on the scene. They found the woman inside, seriously injured and in urgent need of help.

Thanks to their fast response, the medical team was quickly directed to the location. The woman received immediate treatment and was safely transported to the hospital, where her life was saved.

This remarkable act of bravery and teamwork could not have happened without the dedication and professionalism of the entire team:
Nana Jenkins, Shani Baldwin, Douglas Sakyi, Luke Overy, Felix Eyisie, Rickey Saywack, and Ryan Barge—thank you for your heroism and for embodying the very best of what we stand for.

You are true lifesavers, and we celebrate each of you.

Shocking new BRC data reveals UK retailers face 55,000 thefts every single day. Even more concerning is the 50% surge in violent incidents, with over 70 daily cases involving weapons. The cost to retailers has now reached £2.2 billion annually.

At ASG we’re seeing firsthand how these challenges are affecting businesses across the country.

While retailers have increased security spending to £1.8 billion, many still struggle to protect their staff and assets effectively.

Want to discuss how to better protect your retail operations? Let's connect.

The British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) latest crime survey reveals 55,000 daily thefts across UK stores, prompting Assist Security Group (ASG) to call for strengthened protective measures.   Daily violent incidents have increased by 50% over the previous year, with more than 70 cases involving wea...
