Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) was started in the 1970's by Richard Bandler, Frank Pucelik and John Grinder. It began as the study of excellence - why do some people excel whilst others get less certain results. From that study came a series of tools and techniques that can be applied very well to coaching to help a person achieve their goals and dreams. Ian Kaye is a double qualified NLP Trainer having trained with both John and Frank and their master trainers to trainer level.

Dinosaurs. This is a unique assessment of how we can behave like dinosaurs.

There is a bit of an explanation and then it becomes clear.

Last week I posted about Motivation Theory, this week is similar but also considering a unique dinosaur theory.

"Language is both a representational system and the means or process of communicating out representation of the world. The process which we go through to communicate our experience are the same processes which we go through in creating our experience." From the Structure of Magic by Richard Bandler and John Grinder

The importance of understanding this cant be over stated. Transformation Grammar experts tells us that as humans we Generalize, Distort and Delete our experience when we speak. This means we "impoverish" our experience when we recall it. Hence - The Map is Not the Territory

Does this make sense for you?

"A persons generalizations or expectations filter out and distort their experience to make it consistent with those expectations. As they have no experiences which challenge their Generalizations, their expectations are confirmed and the cycle continues." From the Structure of Magic by Richard Bandler and John Grinder.

An example of a generalization would be "He always slams the door". A person may on occasion "slam the door" but the chances are it is not always. And so, in this invented scenario the partner of the person who slams the door has told themselves they always do - probably because whenever they do it annoys them. This is an unhelpful frame of reference and is not accurate. Can you imagine how this can lead to animosity and general ill-feeling?
