194 countries in, and I've learned this: the best camera is the one that doesn't get in the way.

Thrilled to announce I'll be speaking at Extraordinary Travel Festival in Bangkok this October about smartphone photography.

For years I traveled light out of necessity — to blend into markets, border crossings, and daily life in some pretty complex places. Turns out, that constraint became the whole style. That work just got selected for the National Geographic Annual Calendar — shot on my phone.

At ETF I'll be sharing everything — no gatekeeping. How I shoot, how I edit, how I get close without disrupting the moment.

Cape Verde 🇨🇻 Ilha Sao Vincente & Santo Antao feels like you are at the edge of the world! The wonderful colonial architecture in the towns of Mindelao, and Ponta Del Sol combined with the water access and virtually zero tourists while we were there made for a wonderful experience.

🌍 Ready for an escape to one of the most spectacular hidden gems in the Atlantic?

Emily and I recently visited Santo Antão, the lush, volcanic paradise of Cape Verde! 🇨🇻
Known as the archipelago’s "green heart," this island is a dream for nature lovers and hikers, offering a dramatic contrast between steep, rugged mountain ridges and verdant, terraced valleys like the famous Vale do Paúl.

Whether you’re trekking through ancient volcanic craters, exploring the lush northern cliffs, or tasting local grogue in a traditional distillery, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking.

A fun fact to keep in mind: Santo Antão has no airport of its own, which keeps it wonderfully peaceful and authentic! To get there, simply fly into São Vicente (Césaria Évora Airport) and hop on a scenic one-hour ferry ride from Mindelo across the channel to Porto Novo. It’s the perfect spot for those seeking adventure, incredible photography, and a deep dive into nature.

Don't believe everything you hear about the Central African Republic. But never underestimate it either

They say the best view is from the edge. They don't mention the structural integrity of the bridge you have to walk across though

​Crossing the top of the Boali Waterfalls on a bridge that feels like it’s swaying with the river’s roar is...well sparks adrenaline.

​Is it worth the risk? When you’re standing in the middle of one of the world’s most complicated regions, looking down at this power? Every single time.

North Holland peak Dutch bike ride this weekend amonst tulips and windmills (with a special tech assistant this year!)

One of my favorite explorations in the Netherlands is making these hyperlapses each year.

This year the Copernicus Sentinel 2 helped out. They publish daily satellite imagery and I used it to find where tulip fields matched with windmills 🌷🚲

Most people think the Amsterdam canals are just a pretty backdrop, but they actually have a secret pulse. 🌊

​To keep the city fresh, the water is completely flushed out several times a week using a massive system of locks and pumps. It’s basically the city’s way of taking a giant shower. 🧼✨

The flow is to the southwest and if you follow the bouy it goes that direction.
