As the evenings draw in, your building spends more hours empty.

At Sovereign Gate, a boutique workplace, we installed the fire and intruder alarm systems. They work quietly in the background of a space designed to look good, protecting it whether the office is full or the lights are off.

Every well-protected workplace needs four things: fire detection and call points on every escape route, access control so only the right people get in, CCTV covering entrances and key areas, and an intruder alarm that’s set every night.

Is your home ready for the darker evenings?

Five quick checks worth doing this week:
1. Walk-test your alarm. Make sure every sensor and door contact still triggers. Most keypads have a walk-test mode; if you're not sure how, we can do it for you.

2. Watch last night's CCTV. Scroll back to a few hours after dark. Is every camera recording, clear, and pointing where it should? Check the time and date too once the clocks change.

3. Reset your lighting timers. Schedules set for summer will switch on too late. Bring them forward so the house looks lived in from dusk.

4. Test your outdoor lights. Walk the paths, gates and side returns after dark. Clean the lenses and check every sensor light comes on where you need it.

5. Review who has access. Remove old fobs, codes and app users for anyone who no longer needs them.

Exceptional food set the scene for an evening of great conversation, shared perspectives and valuable new connections. A special mention has to go to the manjar and pisco caramel flan, which was truly to die for!

Bespoke security for London's most distinguished homes and businesses.

"At Poppies we had worked with a couple of different suppliers for our CCTV and security system. Since meeting James and his team, we have carried out full surveys of each site and put together a planned program of upgrades to suit our needs and budget. Working with J-Tech we have started to implement full HD security camera systems across all our sites allowing us to monitor and manage them remotely and access footage wherever we are. The pictures are great quality and the installation was even completed out of hours to minimise impact to the business."
