Much of what we call evaluation today is polished, structured, and disconnected. Reports are written, indicators ticked off, but the deeper questions often go unasked.

In this blog, Claudia Useche Trujillo, Senior Consultancy The Social Investment Consultancy (TSIC), reflects on the gap between what evaluation promises and what it delivers. She challenges us to move beyond frameworks and deadlines, and to centre people, those living and sustaining change every day. When we rely solely on distant offices, imposed tools, and institutional language, we risk silencing the very voices that matter most.

What would it mean to evaluate side by side with communities? To listen without rushing, and to learn without needing to control the outcome? Real evaluation asks us not just to prove something, but to imagine, adapt, and grow.
