: The stars are out tonight
* US pauses tech deal
* Meta sued

Back in September, the UK government announced a £31 billion tech deal with the US to much fanfare - both metaphorical and real. But now, the New York Times reported this week that the deal has been put on ice. Sources say that the Trump administration is unhappy with the UK for continuing to levy a digital services tax on US tech firms, while our food safety rules prevent the export of some agricultural products. Millions of Australian children woke up to a whole new world this week. A world without Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, YouTube, Snapchat, Reddit, Kick, Twitch and TikTok. The Australian government has taken the unprecedented step of banning social media for users under 16, with new users unable to set up accounts, and existing users having their profiles deactivated. : Let everybody eat cake!
* Is the AI bubble about to burst?
* AI health applications

Doom mongers around the globe muttered ‘we told you so’ this week as fears that the AI bubble was about to burst, triggering a sell-off on Wall Street that quickly spread to Asia. The week had started so promisingly, after OpenAI signed a $38 billion deal with Amazon to access its cloud infrastructure. Find out more…

Last week, OpenAI unleashed Sora 2, its video-generating app…well, unleashed in the sense that if you had an invitation, you could get it. : A star is born
* Hollywood meltdown over AI actor
* UK Govt vs Apple pt II
* The road not taken
The Oscars may well be months away, but some Hollywood actors have upped their campaigning (I’m looking at you Mr The Rock) to get their mitts on the coveted golden statuette. But there’s one name on the lips of pretty much everybody in La La Land this week who won’t be bagging a trophy anytime soon: Tilly Norwood. Find out more…

: The anatomy of a deal
* US tech deals for the UK
* What’s the catch?
* Fish and chips
The UK economy stagnated in July while inflation remains stubbornly high, but in better news, there’s £150 billion on US investment on its way, including £30 billion for tech.
