This is what’s known in the industry as “steaming,” a coordinated robbery where a group moves as one to grab as much as possible and escape before staff can intervene. It’s becoming an increasingly common challenge for retailers across the UK. 🛡️

Retail theft now costs UK businesses an estimated £2.2 billion a year, and the BRC has warned of a sharp rise in organised gangs systematically targeting one store after another. Incidents like this are exactly what’s driving those figures.

These incidents place ordinary staff in an extraordinary position, often forcing a decision no one should have to make in the space of a few seconds.

Credit to the Team JD staff who stepped in. Standing between a crowd like this and the exit takes real composure, and it’s a reality security and retail workers face far more often than the public realises.

For the operatives and retail teams watching, how would you have handled this one? 👇

On 22 May 2017, an attack at Manchester Arena claimed the lives of 22 people.

Nine years on, we remember each of them, and hold in our thoughts the families and communities for whom that loss endures.

For all who work in security, that day remains a solemn reminder of the responsibility we hold: that people should be able to gather, celebrate, and return home safely.

That responsibility now carries a name in law. Martyn’s Law: the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, named after Martyn Hett, one of the 22, is reshaping how venues across the country prepare and protect. We are proud to stand behind it, and behind the families whose campaigning made it real.

Today, we remember. Every day thereafter, we let that memory shape how we keep people safe.

We're proud to share that Trojan Security has launched our Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and Bystander Intervention Charter, signed by every member of our team.

Inspired by Our Safer City and the Women's Night Safety Charter, our officers have pledged to recognise their responsibility to keep people safe while on shift. That means being vigilant to the signs of VAWG and intervening safely, appropriately, and tactfully when concerns arise.

With our officers deployed across the country, at busy public spaces, dense crowd environments, and major events, we know our people are well-placed to help drive positive change.

This charter is the next step in our wider commitment to making communities, public spaces, and events safer for everyone.

Meet Dawn Dines. Founder of Stamp Out Spiking and one of the most determined voices in UK safeguarding.

For over 20 years, Dawn has been campaigning to change the law on spiking. The day we filmed this conversation, that law received Royal Assent. Two decades of work, signed in a single afternoon.

What comes next is the £1 Initiative.

The ask is deliberately simple. £1 a month, or £1 a year. From individuals, from companies, and from their teams. The money goes straight to where it’s needed most: securing drinks, training venue staff, and keeping Dawn on the frontline.

Trojan Security is officially backing the campaign.

We operate heavily in the night-time economy. That means our staff, our venues, and the public who pass through them need to be fully trained and aware of the risks.

If you run venues, lead an events business, or manage a security operation in the night-time economy, this is your call to action.

Pledge £1. Bring your workforce in. Get your venues trained.

One person can’t do everything. But everyone can help one person do something.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week last week, Trojan Security has strengthened the way we support our teams.

Our first focus has been introducing more meaningful welfare questions within staff appraisals, questions designed to look past the first "yes, I'm fine" and open up real, supportive conversations.

Alongside this, we have rolled out in-person Mental Health Awareness training for our Line Managers, giving them greater confidence to recognise when someone may need support and how to respond appropriately.

Security professionals safeguard others daily, but they face the same personal pressures as anyone else, often while standing on the front line in demanding situations. Supporting them properly isn't optional.

For our teams to be at their best, they need to feel listened to, supported, and genuinely cared for.
