‘Angels’ feat Geo is out now.

The first single from Scratch Is Alive, the new album from Lee “Scratch” Perry and Steve Marshall.

Scratch recorded the vocal at Black Ark Studio Switzerland, over a rough beat. His note at the time: “When I recorded the vocals, I only listened to the heartbeat.”

The music took more than a decade to catch up with it. Steve rebuilt the rhythm around the vocal - new drums, electric guitars, piano, synth - and it turned into a Lovers Rock record. Geo Baddoo wrote and sang the melody, working from Lee’s refrain, drawn from Psalm 87:7.

Scratch Is Alive is out 13 November via State of Emergency, marking what would have been Lee’s 90th birthday year.
