An honour to work with Arsenal, deploying to help their drive against abuse and discrimination.

Signify CEO Jonathan Hirshler: “Arsenal’s approach to this issue has been exemplary. The club’s commitment to understanding the true picture of the problem and applying real world sanctions acts as a powerful deterrent to those wishing to send abuse online. It also provides a clear template for the football family and other sports looking to protect their communities.

The club’s extension of our contract is a powerful validation of our approach. It displays a real show of intent by Arsenal, and we hope to continue to strengthen our relationship and support the club’s wider efforts on safety, equality and diversity.”

Proud to have worked with FIFPRO, NBPA & WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) on this groundbreaking report into online abuse targeting male & female athletes across football & basketball worldwide.

'Decoding Online Abuse of Players' is the world’s first comparative study looking at the types, levels, and gravity of abuse targeting the world's two most popular team sports. The study covers 160 players across 15 leagues in 10 different countries around the world.

Signify's Threat Matrix service analysed 7.3 million Tweets during a five-month period that took in last year's NBA play-offs, the conclusion of European football's domestic seasons, and the delayed Euro 2020. Our analysis found thousands of racist, homophobic, sexist, and transphobic messages targeting male and female players in both sports.

Making it the norm for all to speak out and report abuse or threat is vital.

However, when Federations, Leagues or Clubs ask that victims be lead monitoring and reporting content directed at them this can lead to precisely the kind of harms it is meant to avoid.

Reliance on victims driving action against is actively asking them to focus on their abuse. This can have seriously detrimental impacts on both mental health and performance for athletes.

There needs to be proactive support.
