This is one of the hardest parts of growing grapes in England.
Two weeks ago, our Foxhole Vineyard was hit by cold winds across two nights: -3°C, then -2.8°C.
This was not a localised ground frost, but an advection frost moving across entire vineyards with very little protection possible.
Shoots at the delicate 2–4 leaf stage were hit hardest, and we are now expecting significant yield losses this season. Thankfully, the more developed shoots appear to have come through well, and the vineyard continues to move forward.
