The point about drift “creeping in quietly” will resonate with so many people, especially, leaders and HR consultants who are so used to carrying responsibility for others.
Sometimes people aren’t struggling because they lack capability.
They’re struggling because they’ve been carrying too much for too long without pause, support or space to process it.
One of the biggest takeaways for me was the reminder that connection matters.
Not performative connection.
Real human connection.
The kind where someone notices when you disappear.
The kind where someone picks up the phone instead of just sending a message.
The kind where people feel safe enough to say, “I’m not okay.”
A very timely and much-needed conversation. Thank you HR Voices for bringing this to light.
Even capable HR professionals and independent consultants can feel isolated or stuck, especially when supporting others or working remotely.
In HR Voices EP75, Mike Pagan and Mary Asante explore emotional load, “drift,” accountability, and why asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.
How do you stay supported in your work?
