On a trip back into prime central London following a trip to visit a client in Richmond at a home built by King George III in 1769, the light capturing this incredible institution and home of the Chelsea Pensioners glinted, striking and too good to pass without a proper look. The door unusually half ajar.

A little 🤏 glint of gold from the Grinling Gibbons statue of King Charles 11, who founded the hospital in 1682 as a pensioners home for military veterans, in the Court of the Royal Hospital. The hospital was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and originally cost around £150,000 to construct.

To the front is this “life size and a half” sculpture by Inverness born sculptor Philip Jackson to commemorate the second Millennium. Unveiled by Brigadier the Duke of Westminster OBE TD DL (6th Duke, Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor) on 4th May 2000

Around the plinth is written,”O Lord you know how occupied I shall be this day. If I forget thee do not forget me”.
