What is RPL? And can your trade experience count towards a qualification?
If you're a tradie thinking about coming to Australia, you may have heard of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). But what does it mean?
🔧 Simply put, RPL recognises skills and knowledge you've gained through work experience, previous training and other learning.
Here's how it generally works:
✅ Share evidence of your experience and skills.�✅ Have your evidence assessed against the requirements of a qualification.�✅ Find out whether your skills meet the requirements or whether further training or assessment is needed.

Your experience may be valuable, but RPL isn't automatic. You'll need to demonstrate your skills, and the outcome depends on the relevant requirements.
Importantly, an RPL qualification does not automatically guarantee a positive migration skills assessment, a visa or permission to work in a licensed trade in Australia.
