There are people who see a complicated workflow, disconnected systems or a process that’s grown completely out of control and think... I don’t even know where I’d start.

I look at it and want to get stuck RIGHT in. 😂

I’ve always been someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity and understanding how things connect. And building a better way forward.

It’s a big part of why being a Fractional COO and Business Systems Consultant suits me so well.

I get to combine strategic operational thinking with the practical side of actually making things work.

Sometimes that’s creating calm, connected systems, other times it’s untangling years of operational workarounds.

And sometimes it’s being the strategic operations partner who can take ownership of the how while a founder focuses on where the business is going next.

“Is this the worst mess you’ve ever seen?” A CEO genuinely asked me this during an operational audit.

She was worried about what I was finding as I worked through the organisation’s systems and processes. My answer? “Not at all. The important thing is that you want to do something about it.”

Because I’ve never walked into a business expecting perfect systems.

Businesses grow and teams change. Processes get added and workarounds become permanent. And before you know it, the way you’re operating no longer reflects the organisation you’ve become.

My job isn’t to judge how you got there, it’s to work out how we make it better. At the end of this particular project, I presented the work we’d completed and shared one number: More than 2,000 tasks had already been handled automatically since I’d started.

The CEO put her head in her hands and said: “I’m so happy I could cry. I’ve been wanting something like this for four years.”

That reaction has stayed with me. Because behind those 2,000 automated tasks weren’t just impressive numbers, they represented work her team no longer had to do manually and therefore time they could spend elsewhere.
