Meet our team! Every week, we will feature the experts who are part of the newly established ExploreTerra team. This week, we are excited to showcase our Data Management and Integration Lead, Carolina Villarraga Morales.

With a strong foundation in geochemistry and a passion for science, Carolina has contributed to numerous projects in the mining industry and the field of volcanology. Her geological career is distinguished by sharp analytical skills, a keen ability to identify and interpret patterns, and a meticulous approach to data quality and management.

As the Chief Operation Officer at GeoLatinas, Carolina showcased her leadership by promoting diversity and inclusion. She also ventured into technology, creating and implementing a Python script to streamline entry processes and enhance communication between leaders and volunteers.

In the past two years, Carolina expanded her expertise to data science, mastering essential technologies such as Python and SQL. This has enabled her to take on independent roles in Geospatial Process Automation and Optimization, where she excels in scripting for data organization and processing, and in developing a QGIS atlas with over 100 distinct features.

At ExploreTerra, her initial focus will be on data management and integration. As a leader in Data Management and Integration, Carolina will ensure excellence in data handling, contributing to the progress and success of projects. Her leadership will be crucial in advancing ExploreTerra's multidisciplinary vision, emphasizing the importance of diversity and innovation in the development of energy projects. Moreover, Carolina has played a pivotal role in developing the ExploreTerra Talent Pool, a project we are launching soon to create a comprehensive database of instructors ready to contribute to the geoscience community across a wide range of topics.

I have compiled a presentation about some of the geological and geophysical insights and challenges in the Southern Gulf of Mexico, which I have now presented in Spanish for a GeoLatinas GeoSeminar. This work leverages publicly available information alongside many years of experience in basinwide 3D seismic interpretation in Campeche/Sureste and the Salina del Istmo basins. We are hopeful for the opportunity to present this work in English in the near future and to continue sharing our understanding and the recommended best practices we are able to do or apply at ExploreTerra. We really appreciate your support! thank you, gracias!
