🚘 Is ANPR coming to the MOT test lane?

Could we soon see ANPR cameras built into the headlamp aligner, mounted elsewhere in the test lane, or used as part of a more automated MOT process?

We’ve taken a closer look at:

πŸ”Ή DVSA’s plans for connected equipment
πŸ”Ή ANPR and camera use in MOT testing
πŸ”Ή Automatic and robotic headlamp testers already in use around the world
πŸ”Ή Patents showing vehicle-facing cameras built into headlamp aligners
πŸ”Ή The different ways this technology could be introduced into UK MOT stations
πŸ”Ή How it could help reduce fraud, improve vehicle identification and cut down on manual errors

Some of this technology already exists internationally β€” the big question is how far DVSA will take it in the UK.

πŸ‘‰ Read the full blog to see what we found.
https://rlrmot.co.uk/rlr-mot-blog/f/is-anpr-coming-to-the-mot-test-lane

But we also want to hear from MOT testers, AEs, AEDMs and people working in the trade:

πŸ’¬ What technology do YOU think would actually improve MOT testing?

Would you support:

βœ… Fixed ANPR in every test lane?
βœ… ANPR built into the headlamp aligner?
βœ… More connected equipment?
βœ… Automatic headlamp testing?
βœ… More photographic evidence during tests?
βœ… Something completely different?

Comment below with what you think would make the MOT scheme better, more accurate and harder to abuse.

It would be interesting to hear what the people actually carrying out MOT tests think should come next.

🚨 What should you do if DVSA turn up at your MOT station?

Our latest RLR MOT Training & Consultancy blog covers the key steps every AE, AEDM, Site Manager and MOT Tester should know.

We explain:
β€’ why you should ask to see the DVSA officer’s official warrant
β€’ what to do if you have doubts about their identity
β€’ how to handle an unexpected DVSA visit professionally
β€’ what to do if DVSA want to interview you
β€’ the difference between cooperating and feeling pressured to answer immediately
β€’ when to ask for an interview to be rearranged
β€’ when legal advice may be needed
β€’ how the DVSA disciplinary and representations process works

A DVSA visit does not automatically mean disciplinary action, but knowing the correct procedure can make a major difference if concerns are raised.
