We have specialised in business support, customised training, premises provision and creating suitable environments for small businesses, community group and voluntary organisations. Our priority target groups are black and ethnic minority individuals and organisations, female entrepreneurs, youth, co-operatives, and green and ethical businesses. We are working to achieve the development of a genu
inely inclusive economy and of a fair society. Assisting people into co-operative enterprise is primary focus of HCD. Our co-operative development work is mainly delivered under the national Co-operative Enterprise Hub programme. The Hub, which was set up by The Co-operative Group, provides free advice, training and access to finance for new and existing co-operatives. To support the growth of local businesses and community organisations, HCD provides affordable business premises in the area. We currently have 73 units, including small offices, medium-sized workshops, retail outlets and night-time economy venues. Therefore, our tenants are very diverse. Apart from business support, HCD has been holding many cultural events in Gillett Square, working with our tenants and organisations. They are sometimes art events, music events and so on. Gillett Square is now a place for arts, business and community.
