auticon UK

auticon UK We are an award-winning social enterprise that exclusively employs autistic people as IT consultants. auticon is an award-winning IT consulting business.

We are the first enterprise to employ autistic adults as consultants, and to deploy their strengths in clients’ projects. Having both autistic and non-autistic professionals in mixed project teams opens up new perspectives and significantly improves work output. Founded by Dirk Müller-Remus in Berlin in 2011 with investment from the London- and Munich-based Ananda Social Venture Fund, auticon is t

he first enterprise that employs adults on the autism spectrum as IT consultants. Inspiration for the company came when Mr Müller-Remus’ son was diagnosed with Asperger’s. Mr Müller-Remus was dismayed by the employment prospects on offer to autistic people, and decided to build a company which created long term sustainable jobs for adults on the autism spectrum. auticon appointed Kurt Schöffer as CEO in 2013 to grow and expand the social enterprise. An international entrepreneur in the IT, energy and media sectors, Kurt was also an original investor in auticon. Following significant growth and investment in the German market, auticon expanded into the UK and France in early 2016, with offices in London and Paris. auticon has now offices in Switzerland, USA, Canada, Italy and Australia as well.

At we often hear from organisations that ‘know better’, so they want to ‘do better’. However, one of the biggest barriers to taking positive action to improve diversity and inclusion, is that they can be unsure, and sometimes even scared, of doing the wrong thing. That’s why we are passionate about mitigating the fear factor for our clients.

In our latest episode of ‘Autism: In conversation with auticon’, our Chief Commercial Officer for UK and Ireland, Steve Hill, brilliantly explains to how we help guide our clients to get beyond the fear factor to be able to create inclusive working environments that enable neurodivergent talent to thrive.

For a long time, many autistic people found themselves pushing against the ‘Rain Man’ stereotype, i.e. that to be autistic meant having savant abilities, as depicted by Dustin Hoffman’s character in the film of the same name.

Whilst huge developments have been made to overcome this inaccurate stereotype, the notion of autism as a ‘superpower’ has risen in prominence in recent years. In our latest episode of ‘Autism: In conversation with auticon’, which celebrates autistic talent, asks each of our guests to share their opinions on this.
Dancer and TV personality has some brilliant and nuanced insights to share on this subject. He suggests that whilst it can be useful to promote the many positive aspects of being autistic, we shouldn’t overlook the fact that autism is a disability.

We’d love to know what you think. Have we moved beyond the ‘Rain Man’ stereotype? What do you think about the idea of ‘autism as a superpower’? Leave us a comment below if you’d like to share your views on this.
