🚨 BREAKING NEWS FOR PUBS 🚨
Your business rates are about to change dramatically and the Government’s announcement isn’t quite what it first looked like.
Yes, a 15% discount for pubs has been announced…
❗️But here’s the bit they didn’t tell you:
👉 Most pubs won’t feel that 15% in Year 1.
Transitional caps swallow the increase first, which means the discount only truly kicks in Years 2 & 3 as the cap unwinds.
And the even bigger story?
🔥 Every pub sector body has now withdrawn its approval of the VOA’s valuation guidance.
That means the very method used to value pubs for business rates is officially disputed and the Government has now been forced into a full review.
This is huge.
It means the system used to judge what your pub “should” pay is no longer supported by the industry it’s imposed on.
If you run a pub, lease a pub, or represent one this is the moment to pay attention.
