Apart from all the open borders, boats, free hotels, free health care and "far right" thing, allow me to share another reason why the UK and the West are going to hell in a handcart... I am trying to hire people at the moment for a client of mine. In short, we need someone good with numbers, who has some gift of the gab and doesn't mind hard work. That's it. Don't care about degrees or A levels. Starting pay is nearly three times national average wage AND they will get full training from me given it is something I used to and was pretty good at. I have had the misfortune of meeting a range of circa 27 year olds who don't know how to dress, or show up on time, or present themselves or what hard work is. One guy we travelled two hours to see for a second interview and he cancelled 15 minutes before the meeting. Today's candidate just texted to say he hurt his ankle and couldn't make it. FFS! What is wrong with these kids?! At their age I had a deep seated fear of being poor (still have it!) that gets me up in the morning and makes me crawl over broken glass to advance myself. My kids are NOTHING like this, but is it otherwise a Southern thing? Do we mostly breed privileged, self-obsessed snowflakes down here??? If anyone knows a young person who is numerate, not shy and has work ethic, I am yer man.
