โ ๏ธ IED AWARENESS AND RESPONSE TRAINING โ DAY ONE UNDERWAY โ ๏ธ
Our latest IED Awareness and Response Training Course is now underway, and we are already well into the first day of intensive classroom-based learning with UCP Group.
Todayโs session introduces learners to the realities of improvised explosive device threats and explains why effective awareness, early recognition and an appropriate response can save lives. This is not simply a classroom subjectโit is essential knowledge for security professionals, close protection officers and personnel operating in public, commercial or hostile environments.
Using a range of inert training aids, visual materials and realistic IED props, our instructors are helping learners understand how improvised devices may be concealed, presented or adapted to different operational environments. All training materials are completely safe and are used solely for recognition, awareness and response training.
The first day covers:
๐น The meaning and purpose of an improvised explosive device
๐น The main components and general operating principles of an IED
๐น Common methods of concealment and placement
๐น How threats may be adapted to the intended target or environment
๐น Suspicious objects, packages, vehicles and unusual behaviour
๐น The importance of baseline awareness and identifying anomalies
๐น Primary and secondary hazards
๐น Safe cordon, evacuation and incident-management principles
๐น Accurate reporting and communication with emergency services
๐น The responsibilities and limitations of security personnel
๐น The importance of preserving evidence and avoiding unnecessary interference
Learners are also examining the broad categories of IEDs encountered across different regions of the world. Threats can vary considerably depending upon local conflicts, available materials, criminal or terrorist methods, geography and the level of technical capability involved.
The course considers awareness lessons from locations including the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and the United Kingdom. It examines how devices may be associated with roadside incidents, vehicles, buildings, public spaces, transport systems, mail and packages, checkpoints, compounds and crowded venues.
The purpose to help professionals recognise possible indicators, understand the potential consequences and take safe, lawful and proportionate action.
One of the most important lessons is simple:
Do not touch, move, open or interfere with a suspicious item unless there is no other way through the route then we do teach the best ways to dispose of this threat.
But text book states:
Security personnel must create distance, reduce exposure, communicate clearly and follow their organisationโs emergency procedures. Their role is to recognise, report, isolate and support the appropriate emergency and specialist authoritiesโnot to attempt to diagnose or render a suspected device safe.
Our learners are now applying the classroom knowledge to controlled scenarios involving suspicious objects and realistic inert props. They must identify warning signs, assess the surrounding environment, communicate their observations and explain the immediate actions they would take to protect the public, their colleagues and the client.
IED awareness is relevant far beyond the battlefield. These threats may affect close protection operations, hotels, airports, shopping centres, government buildings, critical infrastructure, public events, corporate premises and international deployments.
Day One is establishing the foundations: awareness, recognition, distance, communication and disciplined response.
