Clients who are new to us sometimes ask: "What's your USP?"
To which we reply: "Our unique approach to Learning and Development is founded in our lived experience that all human beings want to make a positive contribution at work and will do so, if given the opportunity. We recognise that each and every one of us is in a constant state of evolution, re-creating ourselves moment by moment. Our behaviours, and our futures are determined by the choices we make, consciously or unconsciously. We love having people discover they are capable, confident and enhancing their skills to make a difference.

I love this image below. It reminds me that all of us make a difference in what we do and every time we interact with each other. The question is, is it conscious or automatic?

Do you manage an effective team?

If so you naturally want it to be effective. You want to see innovation and engagement but the group mind-set can drift towards comfort and the status quo. This a challenge, particularly in lockdown!

Here is a checklist:

Ensure you have a clear leader who is self-confident and makes decisions.

Allow team members to contribute and arrive at a common decision.

Provide enough opportunities for team members to collaborate and find best solutions .

A uniform group of people may look cohesive but are they creative or just conforming? The pressure for conformity is strong and can stifle original thinking and contribution.

When recruiting try and choose different personality types and backgrounds – they are more likely to be creative.

Share the interplay of different contributions to maximise effectiveness.

When holding team meetings only have the people necessary for the task present. Passive, disengaged observers will dilute the energy.

Any leader who seeks to make all the decisions themselves will produce progressively worse decisions as the contribution of their colleagues is withheld in frustration.

Your team needs to to express its intelligence. If it can’t, then they will likely look for scapegoats to blame.

Why quick and dirty training could leave your company exposed to claims for negligence.
If an employer fails to provide necessary training, work breaks, and safety equipment, they will be held liable for negligence in court. Staff can file an inadequate training injury claim against the employer to seek the financial relief needed for their injuries.

We sympathise, legal claims have historically been associated with physical injuries, but now lock down has changed how office staff work and in many cases, the psychological and practical support they receive has been vastly reduced.

With remote working now ‘the new normal’ many staff have received limited input, emotional support and inadequate training from their employers.

Responsible employers recognise that they have a duty of care for their staff and assess the risks of remote working, ensuring staff are set up properly.

Dancing lion, in conjunction with snapshotz, can assist your company to assess your remote work environment and provide benchmarks against best practice.

We can help you and your team stay safe and healthy while keeping productive. Contact us to learn more.

The paradox of achievement – get comfortable being uncomfortable!

Anyone achieving a goal has to break through barriers to reach it.

These can be internal (such as negative thoughts and feelings) and external, such as outside circumstances such as, market conditions or as we are experiencing currently lockdown restrictions.

If you are managing team, you will know all about overcoming inertia and supporting individuals to do more than they think they are capable of.

The challenges are the same whether you are managing a marketing, sales or collections team.

Yes, you need clear and ambitious targets, good measurement systems, and engagement with your team. You need to train them so they have the skills and knowledge to do their job well.

You also need to hold them accountable. Why? Because the natural inclination of human beings is to drift towards comfort. Comfort is the direct opposite of achievement.

In lock-down more focus is required to achieve results. Whilst no one has had an easy time, has your team got too comfortable? If you are performance managing in the same way as before COVID, they are probably struggling.

Some of our clients have achieved more than they thought possible.
