Happy World Goth Day 🖤

Yes… this was genuinely me over 20 years ago 😂

Long before networking events, diary management and running KazW Business Support, there was a time when my hair was bright red, I wore a lot of black and alternative music was on pretty much constantly.

I still honestly love the alternative scene now and I’ll always have a soft spot for it.

Business social media can feel very polished and serious sometimes, so I thought I’d share something a bit different and more personal today.

Safe to say I definitely looked a little different back then!

What people THINK running a business looks like vs what it actually looks like 👀

People imagine business ownership is all:
✨ freedom
✨ coffee shop working
✨ flexible hours
✨ fancy meetings
✨ “being your own boss”

Reality is usually more like:
😂 replying to emails at strange hours
😂 trying to remember where you saved that document
😂 mentally writing your to-do list while making dinner
😂 forgetting to reply to someone and remembering 4 days later
😂 opening your laptop “for 10 minutes” and still being there 2 hours later

Running a business is rewarding… but behind the scenes there’s a LOT to juggle.

That’s why having support can genuinely make such a difference.

Today is International Virtual Assistant Day 💻✨

So today feels like the perfect time to celebrate all the amazing VAs out there quietly helping businesses stay organised behind the scenes.

Being a Virtual Assistant is so much more than “just admin.”

Can we all agree that chasing invoices is one of the most awkward parts of running a business?

You send the invoice.
You wait patiently.
You check your bank account 14 times.
Then comes the internal debate:

“Do I send a reminder?”
“Do I sound rude?”
“What if they think I’m chasing too soon?”
“What if I leave it too long?”

Meanwhile… you still have bills to pay and a business to run.

A lot of business owners put invoice chasing off because it feels uncomfortable.

But unpaid invoices can quietly create a huge amount of stress behind the scenes.

Sometimes having someone else handle those polite follow-ups and payment reminders can take a surprising amount of pressure off.

Less awkward chasing.
Better cashflow.
Less mental load.

And honestly?
Most of the time people simply need a reminder because they’re busy too.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and honestly… one thing I don’t think people talk about enough is the mental load of running a business.

Not just the big things.

The constant little things.

Remembering to reply.
Following up invoices.
Checking emails late at night.
Trying not to forget something important.
Mentally carrying tomorrow’s to-do list before today has even finished.

A lot of business owners are holding far more in their heads than people realise.

Sometimes support isn’t about “being busy enough to outsource”.

Sometimes it’s about creating a bit of breathing space again.

Less chasing.
Less overwhelm.
Less trying to hold everything together alone.

And honestly? That can make a bigger difference than people think.

The funny thing about networking is…
most people think it’s all polished conversations, perfect introductions and people trying to “sell” themselves.

Half the time it’s actually:

😀 trying not to spill your coffee
😀 trying to get your business cards out of your bag
😀 wondering if your 60 second intro made any sense
😀 and accidentally ending up in really good conversations with genuinely lovely people.

The more networking events I attend, the more I’m realising business is massively about relationships.

People want to work with people they trust.
People they feel comfortable with.
People who make life easier.

Some of the best conversations I’ve had recently have started completely naturally, just chatting about business overwhelm, overloaded inboxes, missed follow-ups and trying to juggle everything at once.

That’s why I genuinely enjoy what I do.

Helping busy business owners feel less overwhelmed behind the scenes can make such a difference, not just to their business, but to them personally too.

Also… if anyone sees me awkwardly trying to juggle coffee, business cards and my phone at a networking event this week, please pretend not to notice 😂

A moment in history that represents resilience, sacrifice, and the coming together of people during incredibly difficult times.

It’s a day to pause and remember.

To reflect on those who lived through it, those who served, and those who never came home.
