We are firmly into the Festive period now with only 7 days until Christmas and 2 weeks until the New Year. A time to reflect and be thankful. It's been an extraordinarily challenging year for many, but we've been extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to meet and work with some amazing people over the last 12 months on some incredible projects. Despite the huge obstacles faced and restrictions imposed on people, we've witnessed real innovation in people and businesses. Coupled with a resolute determination to succeed in the face of adversity, this year has seen many resultant success stories.

We are currently looking for a Coral Ecologist Research Specialist to work with a major Academic client in the Red Sea.

The individual will be responsible for conducting the research to help manage and preserve marine habitats and will involve participation in underwater surveys and the extensive monitoring of coral reefs.

Responsibilities:

• Analyse and report on ecological data, and present results in a variety of forums.
• Develop and refine technological approaches to survey benthic communities and coral reefs, such as use of remote vehicles or drones to acquire imagery, and machine learning tools to extract information on benthic composition and structure from that imagery.
• Management of big data and large quantities of imagery gathered.
• Design and lead benthic monitoring and survey programs, with a focus on coral reefs.
• Oversee all activities necessary to conduct field operations.
• Development and training of a team to implement and analyse benthic and coral reef surveys.
• Collaborate with international scientific and conservation groups, to help develop best in class coral reef surveys.

Essential Qualification and Experience:

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in coral reef ecology and monitoring.
• PhD in marine ecology, biology or related subject.
• Experience leading coral reef ecosystem research and long-term monitoring programmes.
• Experience presenting scientific research or monitoring programmes at relevant scientific forums and panel discussions.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
• High degree of proficiency in the implementation of coral reef surveys and in the analysis of resulting data.
• Proven ability to generate scientific products and peer reviewed publications.

Highly Desirable

• Advanced diver certification.
• Experience in the Red Sea
• Qualified First Aider.
• Experience with ecology and monitoring of other nearshore marine organisms.
• Proficiency in Viscore software, CoralNet or AgitSoft
