Can therapists use client testimonials? Depends who you’re registered with.

UKCP: no. Clause 13 says members must not include testimonials from clients in any advertising.

BACP: no ban, but duties of honesty, accuracy and confidentiality that make them hard to use well.

NCPS: no ban, but your advertising has to be truthful and accurate, and the CAP Code applies.

The bigger risk sits underneath all three. Naming someone as a therapy client is special category data under UK GDPR, and the power imbalance in the room makes "freely given" consent a hard argument.

What works instead: endorsements from peers and supervisors (the most underused trust signal on therapy websites), a complete Google Business Profile, credentials with membership numbers, and a clear description of what happens in a first session.

West London business owners: if you’ve ever searched for your own business on Google Maps and not found it, it’s one of three things. Relevance, distance, or prominence.

Four of the six fixes take under an hour combined. Testing from the right location, verifying the listing, sorting the address setup, and choosing the right primary category.

The other two are the ones that keep you there: a proper website with a page per service, and real reviews.

Every September the same thing happens. The kids go back, the summer ends, and people who have been putting something off since spring start typing "counsellor near me" into Google.

If your practice isn’t on Google Maps, you’re invisible to that search. And I know why many therapists avoid it: you don’t want your home address published.

You don’t have to publish it. Google lets you show a service area instead of an address, and it works for online and home-based practices.
