Gallery FUMI proudly presents Rooted., their first solo show by the visionary design duo JAMESPLUMB, led by James Russell and Hannah Plumb. The exhibition debuts Copper Roots, an enchanting collection of chandeliers, candelabras, wall sconces, and mobiles. Each piece is crafted from intricately twisted copper tubes that support counterweighted lamp holders, embodying JAMESPLUMB’s commitment to reshaping found materials into modern masterpieces. Lamps illuminate when placed and turn off when removed, seamlessly integrating function with artistry.

Since relocating from London to a rural Shropshire farmhouse in 2022, have drawn inspiration from their pastoral surroundings. The renovation of the property revealed copper pipes and fragments of concrete, which inspired Copper Roots. This series reimagines copper from a conduit of water to a carrier of light, with concrete fragments grounding the graceful copper frames, creating a poetic tension between lightness and solidity.

JAMESPLUMB’s approach is rooted in hands-on, ritualistic craftsmanship. Stones are hand-dug, washed, and combined with local materials to create custom limecrete. Each lamp-holder is then set in hand-dug earth, held steady by simple hazel structures reminiscent of traditional agricultural frames. As James Russell explains, “While it might seem unusual to describe this process as planting, there is a true sense of rooting and transformation inherent in the act.”

Expanding on their Steel Roots series, Copper Roots shifts from candlelight to bespoke LED bulbs designed to echo the warm glow of a flame. The pieces invite viewers into a dialogue between gravity and illumination, solid and skeletal, with copper arms unfurling from fractured concrete foundations, embodying both resilience and fragility.

Paul Cocksedge will unveil a captivating piece from his “Squeeze” series, a striking new installation first showcased at Paris Design Week, to coincide with Bonhams’ prestigious Design and Contemporary Ceramics Sale, running online until October 23rd.

This exquisite work, a seamless blend of light, form, and the intricate craft of mirror-making, will be displayed New Bond Street location from October 21st to 23rd, alongside the Design Sale.

Marcus McDonald, Director of Design and Contemporary Ceramics at Bonhams, remarked, “We are thrilled to partner with an artist whose innovative manipulation of materials has earned him global acclaim. His work is the perfect complement to our Design Sale, a celebration of form, materiality, and craftsmanship. This October’s sale promises a remarkable collection of works from some of the most visionary artists and designers of the 20th century, and we anticipate significant interest from collectors.”

Paul Cocksedge expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It is a true privilege to present this new piece at Bonhams during their autumn Design Sale. The collection features creations by designers who dared to experiment and push the boundaries of material and form—exploring these masterpieces has been a profound source of inspiration for me.”

With over 180 lots, the sale spans iconic movements, from the Aesthetic era with works by Christopher Dresser (1834-1904), often hailed as the first industrial designer, to the opulence of Art Deco, featuring creations by French metalsmith Edgar Brandt (1880-1960) and the legendary Jean Dunand (1877-1942), a cornerstone of Art Deco design. Masterpieces from luminaries such as René Lalique, Carlo Bugatti, Alvar Aalto, Arnold Madsen, and Lucie Rie will also be showcased in this highly anticipated sale.

Sir Michael Craig-Martin RA has taken over the Main Galleries at the with a vibrant celebration of his 60-year career. A leading figure in British art, has been a major influence as both an artist and teacher since the late 1960s. His diverse work spans sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, prints, and digital art, blending elements of pop, minimalism, and conceptual art.

Experience his career highlights, from his iconic conceptual piece An Oak Tree to early experimental sculptures and the bold, colourful paintings of everyday items like corkscrews, umbrellas, and laptops. The exhibition also features a dramatic site-specific installation, monumental sculptures, and new immersive digital works.

This is the largest and most comprehensive showcase of Craig-Martin’s work ever held in the UK — Explore the full spectrum of his groundbreaking creativity in a stunning and immersive setting.

Mayfair Design District has been running district tours since 2018. In recognition of our extended programme this year, we are currently planning a whole series of by appointment tours throughout September and October, running on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s lasting 1-2h each (or longer by arrangement). These tours will take in the Mayfair galleries, fairs, auctions, brand activations and where possible will present artists to discuss their work further.

Another short highlight from Salone, we absolutely adored going through .milano, its curation and designs.

Alcova is a platform for independent design developed by Valentina Ciuffi - and Joseph Grima - . Currently operating as an itinerant network of exhibition spaces across multiple sites in and around Milan, it activates forgotten locations of historical significance, temporarily recasting them as venues for exhibitions, installations and performances.
