612,000. That's roughly how many UK businesses experienced a cyber breach or attack in the last 12 months, according to the government's own Cyber Security Breaches Survey.

Phishing was behind the vast majority of them.

Not sophisticated nation-state tooling. Not zero-days. Emails that looked plausible enough for someone to click.

Cyber Essentials exists almost entirely to close the gaps that make phishing effective once someone does click: unpatched software, no MFA, accounts with more access than they need. It's not designed to make you unhackable, but rather, to stop the click from becoming the whole story.

If someone on your team clicked a bad link tomorrow, what would actually stop it from spreading?

612,000 UK businesses were hit last year. Most didn't budget for it.

The government's 2025/26 Cyber Security Breaches Survey found that in worst-case incidents, the cost to small businesses reached £4,000, and that's before accounting for staff time, client disruption, or reputational fallout!

5% of businesses reported losing revenue or share value as a direct result. That's up from 2% the year before.

Cyber risk is financial risk. If it's not in your risk register, it probably should be.

What's your current exposure?

43% of UK businesses were hit last year.
That's not a stat from a security vendor trying to sell you something.

That's the government's own research published by DSIT on https://hubs.la/Q04ghsXP0, just last month...

And here's the part that should concern every leader: businesses are now reporting reputational damage and revenue loss as direct outcomes. Not just IT headaches but brand risk too.

The question isn't whether cyber security is someone else's problem. It's whether you've made it part of how you grow.

What does your current cyber posture say to the clients you're trying to win?

is behind 51% of all attacks and it's getting easier, NOT harder...

The Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2025/26 found that attackers see phishing as increasingly straightforward to execute. Volume is up. Sophistication is not required.

The uncomfortable truth: your staff are the vulnerability.

Only 19% of UK businesses run regular cyber security awareness training. That means 4 in 5 are leaving their teams exposed to the most common attack type in the country.

This isn't an IT problem, but rather, a people and process problem.

What does your team actually know about spotting a phishing email?

The best version of anything is rarely the first attempt.

You make a start. You learn something from making it. You go again...a little sharper, a little more considered.

Most people we speak to are in that exact place with AI right now. The first experiments have happened. Some worked. Some didn't.

And now there's a much clearer sense of where it actually earns its place, and where it just adds noise.

The tools worth keeping are the ones that make the next version better than you could have managed alone.

You lay it over the drawing. You sketch on top. You test ideas without touching the original. And then, when something works, you commit it to the real drawing.

Many businesses we speak to are using AI exactly like this right now. Layering it over the work. Exploring. Testing. Seeing where it genuinely saves time, sharpens output, or opens up something new.

The tools that are earning a permanent place in people's workflows tend to share something in common: they improve the work without disrupting the craft underneath.

That's the bar worth holding AI to. Not "can it do the thing", but "does it make the thing better?"

Most IT problems we see in companies aren’t caused by technology.
They’re caused by unclear ownership.

When responsibility is split between suppliers, internal teams, and “whoever last touched it”, issues drag on and risk builds quietly.

Good IT isn’t about faster fixes.
It’s about knowing who is accountable when something matters.

Here’s a question to ask internally as we begin the new year - who truly owns IT outcomes in your business?
